View Full Version : Tuition Clarification

So I think I've misunderstood how our tuition is taken care of at our school during clinicals.

I was under the impression that it was done per credit hour completed. This makes sense since our school can't stick us into greenbook sites back to back which leaves us with gaps that can or can not be fill with electives (most of which require an IM pre req).

However I've been informed that this isn't the case, we are in fact charged PER MONTH even if we're not in a rotation and saaaay - sitting around waiting for our next one to start because the hospital decided last second to move the start date back a month.

Can someone clarify this for me before I get really upset and call financial aide and make a fool out of myself.

:) thanks.

every 16 weeks that u actually rotate (not counting breaks) counts as an academic semester for billing. in order words, you are not billed for time spent not rotating. went to the ny office about 8 months ago and clarified this with my clinical adviser at the time.

(hope nothing has changed in the last couple months)

You are right Sree we pay 5 times during clinical to cover 75 weeks and get our bills q 15 weeeks. The only impact of the rotations is that u may get the bills and loans late if you are going fast on rotation and early if you taking breaks. Any problems call the bursar he is very good and understands well.

bills and loans late
yeah ive been wondering why thats been happening, but when i call the Ny office they remove the late charge promptly - it's just a pain to do it each semester

Does anyone know how the financial aid/loan situation is for the clinicals? I've been reading other posts about what a mess it is right now for folks in Antigua.

Quick recap: Supposedly they are having a problem getting lenders, and losing lenders, because they're going out of business. Students even with good credit are having a lot of trouble with being approved with or without co-signors, and then getting denied because the applications and credit checks are affecting their credit scores very negatively. The current lender apparently is charging a very high interest rate and origination fee. At least so far this is how I understand the situation to be.

I'm sure you've all heard and and read about this issue, but I was wondering if the same thing is happening to people doing rotations now, because it seems for now that the most vocal complaints are primarily from people in Antigua.

Thanks!

Try speaking with NS. He came and visited us in Antigua and told us that we will not be denied our education even if we cannot pay right now. Also trying applying for the AUA Loan, which we were told by NS is for students who were denied their loans and had no where else to turn. Also, get whatever you can in writing about not being denied or education.
