I did some research for the best way to get to St. Kitts, I think AA is the cheapest and only has one stop is PR. However I heard that if your stopover in PR is not that long then baggage is always delayed by a few days. Is this true? What other airlines are good or what other routes can you get to St. Kitts other than swimming?

LOL, Swimming. I agree, AA is the best and cheapest so far, and safest....So I would recommend for the first time travel you fly directly from US to St. Kitts (Miami).....That is what I did....So, your baggage is not delayed, or lost. I also heard about PR, but personllay I have not had a problem myself, but for my second trip I am going through there. I can better comment on it then....Hope this helps

In addition tothe direct flights from Miami and PR, American also has a direct flight from NY to SKB.

When flying through PR, you want to have plenty of time to make your connections. This is a bit more important when flying from SKB to the US because you enter immigration and customs in PR. You have to claim your luggage there and recheck it after clearing. If your layover is too short, you will not make your connection.

Delta also has a direct flight out of Atlanta, Georgia.

What would be the best flight route from Canada? South western ontario, more specifically. Should i depart from Toronto or Detroit, MI?

ok right now the best price I am getting is $499 plus tax. This is a great deal with only 1 stop.
Its from Miami (mia) to St. Maarten, then to St. Kitts. The layover time in St. Maarten is about 6-7 hours.
My only question is that with my flight through St. Maarten will my bags gets lost? Is this a decent airport to deal with? Is it like the PR airport?
A direct flight from Mia to St. Kitts is running $1100 with tax which is double the price of the deal I am getting right now.
The deal for 499 plus tax is AA from Mia to St. Maarten and Winair to St. Kitts.
For a little more 525 plus tax, its AA from Mia to St. Maarten and LIAT to St. Kitts.
PLease advise, so that I can go ahead and buy this ASAP and save a few hundred dollars

Flying Liat, there is always a chance that you will lose your luggage although they didn't lose my bag last time i traveled with them. All liat flights have a tendency to delayed for a couple of hours...if you don't mind waiting in the airport for that long... In addition, their check-in baggage weight limit is 50 pounds, so you will have to pay additional fee for your bags.
But their price is hard to beat!

If i checked it in at miami all the way through would I still pay overage? And the Winair price is cheaper than Liat. I just hope that at St. Maarten I wont have any issues with baggage loss

well what I am doing since its my first time moving and stuff I am having a barrel of stuff shipped from miami, I think as much as I want under 500 lbs and its a little over $100. So that way I can easily just bring 2 suit cases and one carryon with me while flying. I think I am going to go ahead and book the st. maarten flight. I think its a steal for only $630 with tax and only 1 stop.

If you guys don't mind flying in on a Saturday, Delta offers service to SKB with a stop in Atlanta. That is unless you live in Atlanta, GA...

Most of my travel into the Caribbean has been via PR so let me give you a few hints there.

International bags with less than an eight hour stopover can be checked straight through. DO CHECK YOUR BAGS STRAIGHT THROUGH.

Claiming bags in PR is easy enough and there are tons of porters with dollys if you want/need assistance.

Rechecking your bags can be a hassle. Do that ASAP. The main terminal in PR can fill up and back up quickly.

If you have to overnight in PR either way, I strongly recommend the Best Western IN the airport. The extra you'll pay will be less than your cab fares and the ability to check bags very early before the rush then gran a shower etc. before your flight is awesome. The Best Western also added a pretty good sushi bar last year, last time I was there it was great.

Some other insolicited airline advice:

With the long flights you'll be doing, you can rack up lots of frequent flyer miles and get elite status so try and concentrate your flights with one airline and get and use a crdit card that compliments your program of choice. You get a ton of FF miles signing up for that credit card too !

The best "combos" I have found are Delta airlines/Delta Skymiles Amex Platinum, though Delta doesn't cover as much of the caribbean as American

(If you have a friend/family member who is a Delta veteran AND a delta codeshare all the way to your destination, PM me, life could be very good.)

or

American Airlines/AAdvantage Citi World Platinum huge miles promotion for signing up now, $750 in purchases (which could include your first plane ticket purchase) and a round trip to the Caribbean and you should have a free ticket.

ALWAYS sign up for your airlines frequent flyer programs. They are free and can help sometimes with problems. Making elite program levels and getting free upgrades is ALWAYS fun !

quick question, I bought my entire ticket through American Airlines, but I never signed up for the AA advantage card so that I can rack up the miles, so I just signed up and added my ticket on the account. Now will I still get the miles once I actually fly and will they add to my account balance of miles?
I got a good ticket flying from Dallas to Miami then DIRECT to St. Kitts so I dont have the hassle of loosing bags and all that ordeal.

I don't want Delta airlines because it stands for Don't Expect your Luggage To Arrive

If you signed up for an American Advantage frequent flyer number you may be able to update you reservation/ticket online with your frequent flyer number.

If that won't work call and ask American to update it for you, but check your e ticket to be sure it is on there beforeyou fly.

If all that doesn't work, ask that the counter staff update the computer when you check in.

It is MUCH easier to get miles credited automtically by having your frequent flyer number on your ticket than to do it later after you fly.

In any case, mileage credit for miles flown won't happen until you actually fly. Miles earned through credit card usage in the citi program are issued at the same time as your monthly bill.

One other note about Citi, they have a good online payment system, but it does take some time and work to get started, so don't try signing up for e-payments a few days before your bill is due.
