Hey....i got accepted for the may program, but a relative in st.kitts, who is married to a doctor advised me that WUSM is a good school, at least the best in st.kitts but also advised me not to bother coming there, because few non-us citizens do get Visas when time for clinicals come.
And it is expected that when studying in such schools in the carribean, you do your clinicals in US, at least if you have any hope of getting residency there.........
At the end of the day, its those who have us visas or are citizens that make the best out of the schiool, as they come to st.kitts then go back for clinicals, and later on they can get residency easily on their homesoil......
and so i ve come to the final conclusion that WUSM is not a scam as most people think but the truth is that it's not really suitable for non-us citizens as you could be stuck doing your clinicals in st.kitts which is not really worth it at the end of the day.
Because you could as well get cheaper medical education elsehwere especially in europe.

so i am having a re-think but at the same time advising people to do something about their US immigration status before arriving, so they get to do clinicals there and at least later on...hope of residency in Us.
Thanks.

(please if anyone diasgaress with what i ve said, should please correct if i am wrong and anyone please provide further info an what to do concerning Us visas as i am worried about that.)

I am sure you will get something! Just keep your hope alive and try you best to go to school and pursue your dreams of becoming a doctor. Wusom is a good school, like you said, but if you have visa issues and can't come to the States, I understand that, and it's not easy to get visas these days.

I agree. The same could be said (and is) for all caribbean medical schools. When did the scam question come up? I'm graduating from Windsor in 2 weeks and going to do residency at a major US academic medical center.

I just sat down and spoke to an Iranian girl who is in the same research lab with me and was asking about caribbean medical schools. The answer was the same. When your native (Iranian) medical school is on the approved list in California and it will provide you with all the clinical education you need... why would you come to a caribbean school?

Windsor has two drawbacks that I can see.

1. No student loans (though now that TERI is bankrupt... the same can be said for a lot of other schools)

2. More difficulty finding quality clinical rotations.

If you are persistent, self-promoting, industrious, and have good time management skills, you will do well here. The big advantage is obvious. Its IMED listed and inexpensive.

Ya it is tough getting a US visa..The schools asks you to wait atleast 20 months before applying for a US visa... But there are people (non US residents) -- 4 of them that i know of who are doing their rotations in the states... And in the coming semesters more people are going to be applying for US visas....
Most nigerians who come here have family in UK ..So they prefer going to the UK for their rotations...
But it is upto you..coming to Windsor or not..

Yes you are correct Windsor is not a scam...

You have to remember that NO..NO school in the Caribbean or Europe or Asia will help you get a US visa.

If you are starting MED 1 anywhere than get on applying for a Visa to the US.

cant we do something about our US immigration status while we are on the island?I have a lot of relatives in the US who are who have US citizenship, cant they help in this matter?

thats really a problem, i heard that visas has been totally blocked owing to the fact that in the past, most students especially (nigerians from ROSS) back then got us visas and never came back......and so the consulate now feel people just use the carribean area to ente Us permanently.
so one has to convince the consulate that your going for clinicals, and that your gonna come back, and one of the evidence is landed properties in st,kitts(which i think as a foreigner is almost impossible for anyone) and also proof of invitation form Us hospital.

So i am quite confused too but i have an idea though dntknw if itsofany significance, i happen to know some Us doctors (texas)willing to help me with letters of invitation, (due to personal relationship i have with them), when the time for clinicals come, and would provide documents for me to prove to the conculate, so i am wondering if these could help?
Anyone who has had Us Visa issues or experience should advise or comment on these.

Lastly, is the proof of landed properties mandatory for us visa? i just feel there could be a way out.

Are you saying that there's hope of gettin visas in the near future? as i am accpeted into windsor as a transfer student into MD3, and so i wanna plan ma clinicals on time.......well you guys are there so please tell me more, is it that they give few visas or they dont give at all?
what are the requirements?
well Uk is another option for me, but i heard its very expensive doing clinicals in GOOD HOPE HOPITALS, is this true?
Well i am also ok gettin licensed in UK at the end of the day since US Clinicals or residency or licensure seems to be impossible for foreigners.
Thanks.

hey nice compilation there, how come u seem to know those varsities, but brother i tell you, you dont understand my situation. i am already in a private medical school, and transferiing to windsor.....i just wanna know my prospects, becuase u advising me to look backward at this schools, is discouraging. yea i must tell you because i need an international experience to become an international doctor, and if i stay in my present school, that reality is not gonna come forth easily becuase i would still need to write all these USMLE exams aftermath.
And these schools you mentioned, are good but owned by Govt so lotta problems attached with em, my cousin went to Univeristy of benin and spent 12 yrs reading medicine because it was a 6yr course and different Govt strikes attached, so man i am going for a better option.
so what are you suggesting really, if you know windsor is not good enough for international students or some little secrets about them as you making me suspect, please tell and advise.....
thanks

that's true. i don't know with what aspirations they come down to WSOM. they have a very minimal chance of obtaining a visa for even clinicals in the US.

maybe they want to practice in St Kitts

and why do you think so many nigerians contact the US OFFICES of the carib med schools? I can guarantee you that it has nothing to do with quality of education. Generally they can afford 1 or 2 semester of tuition and live like packs in apartments, then the disappear into the community.

I agree with you, though I have my pal here, from AUA, he is Nigerian.
Many of them have parents in the States, and would want to go the extra miles to get them visas. I just wish them all the best. They just want to make it past the Nigerian myth.

I was told about some of the schools, like the poster mentioned above, they are like the ultimate learning or boot camps/prisons that never end.

I will ask the mod to change this thread as well.
