HSK for chinese Universities required before applying?

Some universities I checked out had in the application for bachelor's degree..'HSK certificate' -- what exactly is this?

And if we have no Chinese language knowledge beforehand, do we have to learn it and sit for the HSK before even applying for unis. there?

At TMU you do not need to pass HSK examination before applying, but you do need to pass it before graduating, it is a chinese language test, it is a difficult test.

some universities require hsk just like toefl
but the difference is that they ask it before issuence of bachelor degree
not beforehand
by the time u stay there u need to study and pass it
