Is there any other visa....other that H1-b or J-1... that will enable me to actually go to the US for a Family Medicine residency....
Currently I have matched in the US for Family, thus kicking me out of CARMS, but my province does not support the Letter of Need for Family Medicine :evil:, and it is way to late to apply for H1-b (no step 3)....
Any advice....other than change your home province to Ontario or Newfoundland....I can not do that, because I have already applied under my home province...

You need to get a hold of a immigration lawyer. Good luck.

Sorry to catch this a little too late .. but in this case, Health Canada would issue you a letter of Need if you are rejected by your province. Please keep in mine, if provincial level does not work out, you need to jump over to the federal level.. this is how we roll in Canada. Beside, FM is in critical shortage, and I CAN NOT recall one province in Canada actually says it doesn't need any !!!

Your post was written in April just after the Match, can you tell us how you managed, are you going to do that Family Medicine in the States with no H1B visa at hand ?

Ontario and Newfoundland are the only provinces that will issue Statement of Need to get the J1-visa for Family Medicine. There is an official site from Health Canada about this. People from other provinces are not eligible to apply for Statement of Need J1-visa to use for Family Medicine in the States, sad to say.

Your experience is surely relevant to Canadians applying to both CaRMS and ERAS. To apply to both, did you have to do MCCQ1 and USMLE Steps 1, 2CK, 2CS ? or just the USMLE Steps ?

I have document explaining the process of how to obtain the J1 from Quebec, and Family Medicine is the first one on the list of critical shortage in the province. I called up the lady from the Minister of Health and she confirmed that Family Medicine is indeed J1 applicable.

I hope it would clarify a little bit more

others please share your experience and what you have gathered so far.
