Does anyone know if the surgery at Mt. Vernon is greenbook?? I didn't find it listed on the acgme site, and asked T* who says everything is greenbook and she said it was. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, through what hospital??

Don't take someone's word that a program is greenbook, especially if it is not listed on the ACGME site.
A quote from SreeCheruku (AUA moderator):
"The problem with AUA is not that we don't have accredited rotations - the problem is that no one seems to know which ones are accredited. Just last month, I saw AUA students rotating through Peds at St. Joes. See my signature for more information."

i think that if you rotate at mt. vernon, they put you down as a student at Sound Shore Medical Center which has an ACGME-accredited program in surgery. but the only way to know for sure is to call the hospital.
make sure they actually put you down as a sound shore student though, because mt. vernon by itself neither has nor is affiliated with a green surgery program on paper, even if residents do rotate through there.

Is that legal?

Sree, this sounds a bit sketchy. I would be afraid of a medical board discounting this rotation as green. Could you not run into a problem in the future?

It's perfectly legal. All I'm saying is that if you are working with residents from Sound Shore, then you should be working through the medical education department at Sound Shore, and you should be classified as a Sound Shore student.
Lots of hospitals do this.
Jackson Park had me work in some clinic in the middle of nowhere but the evaluation said Jackson Park Hospital. That's the only thing that counts.
Of course it would be nicer if Mount Vernon and Sound Shore's surgery programs were officially linked in the Greenbook, but whatever.

Thanks Sree, but I have read a few posts where students were having a problem getting licensed because of Jackson Park rotations outside of the hospital (can't remember which state).
If you want all green rotations, the Mount Vernon arrangement with Sound Shore sounds like it could pose a problem. It may not have been an issue in the past but Medical Boards can decide to delve deeper into clinical rotation sites, as they did with Jackson Park.

It's best to be skeptical.

after further info it seems they were put on probation starting feb 2008 - the hospital also couldn't answer why they're not on the acgme site, but stated that they were in fact green book. They never mentioned the probationary period, we found that info after. Heads up everyone.

ugh that sucks
add that to michael reese being demolished to make way for chicago's olympic village and st. joes getting denied acgme accreditation for ob/gyn

Thanks for the information, that is exactly what I was warning dkb523 about.

Is it possible for anyone to just list which hospitals are SAFE for greenbook rotations?!?? This way no one will be screwed (can I say this word?) later.
THANKS in advance! :D

It's safe if its listed on acgme.org/adspublic. Anything else deserves caution.
