Some suggestions/concerns

Anybody else feel that the increase in admissions at WSOM can be attributed to the positive posts within the new threads in the Windsor University Forum?

I think that a School Official should also be active on this forum to better understand student needs, rather then have a select few of us deal with all these prospective students...You should take a look at my Private Messages....

How come the prospective students from previous semesters do not stay active on this forum?? Maybe if the President Dr. G incorporated this forum when addressing the new students it would bring about a change.

Why hasn't the WSOM website been updated?? I think the admin does not realize how [edited for tos violation] it actually is, especially the Residency Match Page, when we all know there have been several new Windsor Residents!

Well if there is an upswing in admissions, it sure as heck isnt because of the website. When are they going to hire someone with a good command of the english language to update that piece of crap and get rid of the retarded looking smiling red head girl with the cap and gown?

who can we talk to or discuss and try to propose the idea of having an official GRADUATION CEREMONY. It is medical school.....achieving the prestigous MD degree without an official ceremony??!!!?? I dont think anybody would mind spending an extra couple of hundred dollars on top of all the extra fees they charge us to get a decent ceremony.

What do you guys think?

I totally agree with having a graduate ceremony once students complete their rotations. It should be held every year at a specific date (preferable between March and July) where students would not have to worry about being matched/unmatched.

Still, I highly doubt anything will ever happen. WSOM is a FOR-PROFIT school. I feel that nobody really gives [edited for tos violations] about our concerns, and its quite obvious by the school's blatant tactics on everything ranging from the admission standards, the whole Carbondale program (which I think actually makes you dumber than you originally were), to the whole website update issues, to be frank, who are we kidding.

This school has a long way to go.

Sorry to scare prospective students. It is these little things that will help improve WSOM. Although this school has shown DRASTIC improvements from the past, it will take several several years for this school to be at par with some of the top schools in the caribbean (thats IF this school wants to be)...

Just two reasons why Windsor is not serious- but only selfish!

On the Windsor contract for teachers that I have seen one reads …….

By accepting the employment at Windsor University school of Medicine, I agree that I would not pursue a teaching or similar profession or trade for a period of 5 years in competition against Windsor University in the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This clause applies if the employee is terminated or has resigned to prevent the competitive advantage by abusing intimate knowledge of Windsor University operations to release trade secrets or sensitive information such as customer/client lists, business practices, upcoming products, and marketing plans. Failure to abide by this agreement will result in legal proceedings in the jurisdiction of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In other words come and sign on to teach for us, but after we mistreat you or fire you (having stole your intellectual property from our computers that you use whether in your office, or classrooms, or downloaded by the students) you can not go to MUA- Nevis or the other schools on St Kitts to teach for five years or we will sue you!

What trade secrets or sensitive information about business practices could Windsor have that one can take elsewhere except of course HOW TO RUN A POOR MED SCHOOL FROM A BARN ON THE BASSETERRE DOCKS FOR EIGHT YEARS?

In other words come and sign on to teach for us, but after we fire you, you have to wait five years before you can go teach at UMHS which will most likely develop into a great school in a hurry.

All this when they especially ask you to agree when you sign that ……….inter alia

The University will not provide any remunerations towards airline ticket.
The University will not provide any remunerations towards housing.
The Teacher will bear all other expenses incurred during the trip to St. Kitts, including visa fees, transit expenses and any other expenses. University would not reimburse any other expenses.
Teacher agrees to teach all the basic science subjects and conduct exams as determined by the Dean of Academic Medicine.
The Teacher will bear all other expenses incurred during the process of work permit and annual work permit fees and any other expenses. University would not reimburse any other expenses.

In other words come and sign on to teach for us, but DON’T EXPECT ONE IOTA FROM US except that when we fire you (at our whim and fancy) you have to leave St Kitts because you cant work at your calling. In addition to that (and this one is sweet) you must sign a SECURITY BOND! Teacher will be required to deposit a refundable one month salary as security. The deposit can be on multiple deductions not exceeding a 6 month period. The security deposit will be refunded at the end of the contract period.

In other words come and sign on to teach for us, but know that we will be holding a months salary to protect our interests, while we get you to teach ALL the subjects.

A school where teachers are not taken seriously WILL NOT GROW. Now you know why after 8 years Windsor has just been able to leave the Basseterre docks in that old barn.

With contracts like this, Windsor is destined to attracting desperate teachers or young inexperienced doctors from across the other side of the pond (Africa & Asia mainly) who are marking time as they prepare to pass the Step exams to possibly enter the USA.

SUCH AN ATTITUDE IS NEITHER FAIR TO THE STAFF OR THE STUDENTS!!

I dont knwo how old this contract is but i think windsor's new contracts are a bit more attractive....

i'm only saying this because for a couple new teachers we have now that are pretty qualified and one who is from the US

i can't say for sure that the contracts have changed but i doubt those new teachers would sign a contract like that

One can only laugh in wonder at the extent of the denial exhibited by thye cheerleaders of these poor “low tier “ Caribbean medical schools.

A colleague sent this contract to me. It was sent out in December . I don’t think that is old. It certainly aint as old as the old barn where the school was convened on the Basseterre docks for eight long years.

Of course you can not say for change that the contracts have changed BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW! Will you brimble like this when you qualify? Will you lie to your patients if you should qualify and speak of your doubts when YOU DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS?. I HAVE A COPY OF THE CONTRACT --A HARD COPY! One thing I don’t do is come on this forum cheerleading or telling lies or speaking about things I do not know But I love to tell prospective teachers and students about the lies and evil designs of poor medical schools.

You don’t know if the new teachers from the US were offered a different contract to my colleague. I have taught at a school where I was paid five times that of some of my colleagues. Maybe Windsor was struggling so badly for teachers at trhe beginning of the semester they had to compromise and offer these guys a better contract or face the situation of having no staff.

Off course I can understand that you don’t believe that Windsor would send out such a contract--- I didn’t believe it when I saw it either.

I didn’t believe it when I saw the part that read SECURITY BOND! Teacher will be required to deposit a refundable one month salary as security. The deposit can be on multiple deductions not exceeding a 6 month period. The security deposit will be refunded at the end of the contract period.

Can you imagine having to agree to, by signing that Windsor will hold a month of one’s salary as a security bond? Especially when Windsor did not pay your air fare to the island, or accommodated you, or even look after getting you from the airport to the school?

Can you imagine having to agree to, by signing that you would teach ALL the basic science subjects especially when you applied to teach a particular subject?
Would you have subjected your self to that alQurayshee?
Send me an email address and I will send you the contract so you can see for yourself.

no although its shortcomings, WSOM has pretty good Professors that prepare you well for the USMLE Step 1.
