I don't know how it works in Canada, but in the US, you can spend time repairing your credit, being a good credit risk, paying things on time, etc... basically working hard and trying to show people you are worth taking a risk on. If medicine is truly your calling, then it will be worth it to wait a few years until you can obtain financing.
Work hard and have faith, if it is meant to be, you can achieve it with hard work.
Good luck!

don't be resigned to that fate. find out what you need to do to get creditors to trust you. i'm a us citizen... don't know how it works in canada, but $$$ is $$$. if you are a risky person to lend to, find out why and change it. even if you have to give yourself a year or two to repair (or establish) your credit. it's just another obstacle 8)

Did you try the CANHelp program from Teri? Is that loan hard to obtain?
What about this thing from the school website:
CANADIAN STUDENT LOANS
Canadian students are eligible for Federal Loans through the Ministry of Education Student Support Branch in the province of residence. Student may apply for up to 52 weeks of financial assistance annually. Work directly with your individual province for information regarding requirements. SABA University's school code for applying is NUBP.
It occurred to me that many people are getting their loans from banks. Is it because it's difficult to be approved for Teri or Medachiever?

Personally I have not applied to TERI since some of the banks offer better terms on the loans they provide. Although currently I AM applying to TERI just to see how hard it is, and to plan for th future.

I also did not get approved for one from Terri or from Med achiever. So I applied for a private loan. If that does not work I'll have my space available this term. If you have any ideas let me know.

Hi folks,
I would strongly urge that any of you Canadians who may be having problems try going around to different banking institutions.
For example, some time back, I went to Scotiabank, and was told that for out of country medical programs, they can only offer $8000 CDN/year, up to $30,000 over 4 years. That isn't much. And they also required a co-signer (for those of us who are still students).
I also tried CIBC, and they too have a very limited program for out of country medical programs. Similarly, their program was slightly higher, however limited to $15,000/year upto $40,000 over 4 years. Again, that isn't much. Oh yeah, they too required a co-signer.
Also, note the fees associated with the CanHELP/TERI loans. Their interest rates are quite high as compared to the various financial institutions. Moreoever, note their disbursment fees as well.
