I had booked my tickets for April 30th from Toronto to Atlanta to San Juan and onto Dominica on May 1st. San Juan to Dominica was booked through LIAT.
I got a call today from my agent saying that there was a schedule change by LIAT for May 1st and now I will have to travel from San Juan to Antigua and onto Dominica. The problem is that I arrive in Antigua at 4 pm on May 1st and my flight to Dominica is at 4:25 to DOM. only 25 minute to catch my next flight now!
Is anyone else taking the same flight options as me? To those that have been through Antigua, is this enough time? My agent has said that LIAT has arranged these connections themselves so they will do their best to make sure I make it (i dont believe it).
Also, I have 1 day to chill/spend in San Juan from April 30th to May 1st. Should i try staying at the airport and relax there or better to get a hotel and spend 200 dollars more? Was looking into things to do there...
anyone else spending some time in San Juan?
trying to figure these things out...help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Yep, online it show a stop in Antigua. Oh well, gotta deal with it. I don't expect to miss the flight. Almost all the passengers will be Ross student anyway.

yep. I checked online as well and called LIAT to find things out for myself and they have said that all their flights are going from San Juan to Antigua to DOM now. I should call them up again and talk to someone else. I checked online and saw the same thing for various dates. Didn't see anything for San Juan to DOM nonstop.

Liat's usually pretty cool about these things in Antigua. If there are 4 or more people on your San Juan flight for the flight to DOM, they'll hold the DOM flight for you if San Juan runs late (and it will). The only problem is if the San Juan flight is very late, and you get to Antigua after 5:00 or so, you have to spend the night because there are no night landings in Dominica. Good news is they'll usually put you up in a hotel. Bad news is it will suck.
Also, Liat will lose all your check on luggage and you'll have to collect it a week later at RUH.

yep. As long as I miss my flight with everyone else, I am okay with that. We all get collectively screwed and can camp out at the airport or riot until they give us all a sweet hotel.

Including you, I think I know about 5 people flying from san juan to dom on may 1st. it won't be bad. I consider everything an adventure and try to have a positive outlook.

Also the benefits of living in the south, I get to fly into san juan on the morning of 1st. No overnight for me, unless the flights get canceled.

I think I will just spend the day visiting San Juan and relax/nap/sleep on the beaches. Haven't been to San Juan before so will do a mini 1 day vacation. Come back to the airport at night.

Hmm thats why when i travel from the states i take American Eagle from san juan to Dom, i cant take all this excess travelling.
good news is that connecting in antigua airport doesnt take that long and the airport is not a maze - much larger than Dom airport but not large enough to be running up and down stairs and losing yourself and stuff....
25 mins is enough just dont linger and listen for ur flight info cuz liat usually leaves later than they say (L.I.A.T - leaving islands any time).
good luck.....in Advance "Welcome to my "Nature" Island - the Waitikubuli"

Also, San Juan seems to be the only place in the Caribbean that actually enforces the Liat baggage restrictions and charges you for overage. And the scales in San Juan aren't calibrated, so if your bag is right on the line they might try to charge you extra. It could cost you $100 US to get 70 pounds of luggage into DOM a week late, as opposed to American Eagle where it's free, but still late. Liat has some ridiculous carry on weight restriction too, like 20 pounds or something, so just keep it out of their sight or something.

wow u really pushed it.... i thought orientation was may 5th....what if ur flight gets delayed or something else happens.
i should just tell u when travelling to the caribbean especially in this rush season always leave room for "what if" i know of some students who had to end up paying to charter a flight bcuz their flight got cancelled or what not....i wish u good luck.
also when u said u secured housing i hope u sent in ur deposit and 1st month rent bcuz if another student comes in and offers the deposit and rent dont be suprised to know that the landlord will surely give up ur spot with no hesitation.

orientation is may 5th in the evening..so thinking if you do schedule on the 5th make sure you get in in the morning. I had to change mine for that reason also. I'm leavin az to tx and then tx to san juan may 1st. I arrive n dom from san juan on may 2nd.I have a return flight at the end of the semester (on aug 25 th)..my son starts kindergaten. But I plan on leavin the next semester either around the 19th or 20th as well.

OK so you totally freaked me out. Maybe I will move it up to get there the 1st or the 2nd. I read you had to be there no later then the 5th. So I was going to push it. Hey on American Eagle, is it ok to have an actual carry on and a BIG purse...or do they count that as a carry on too?

Maybe I will bring a purse too - I think, that look, in combination with the purple speedo that I have been requested to wear, will certainly cause airport security to look the other way and then I can sneak the extra luggage past them.
Brilliant!

HAHAHAHA....or they might throw u in airport jail depending on how u look offcourse. well i usually have a large pocket book and another bag, or my laptop bag and another bag...but usually i depends on how full the flight is. if its half full i think u can get away with anything lol but if not u are ridculously scanned...

i just officially booked my flight...I'm leaving Detroit on April 30th...First stop is North Carolina...then San Juan...then Antigua...and finally Dominica...but i scheduled it in a way where i dont have to spend any time in San Juan...(barely 2 hours)...my flight total was $844 including taxes, fees, and ticket shipping.
my main concern now is that I only have 25 mins to change planes in Antigua...(20 mins for my return flight.) Is that doable/manageable?
