Apparently, AUA's making a big deal about getting OSHA and HIPAA certified before starting clinicals. A friend of mine sent me websites which offer the course for a small fee:

OSHA: International CPR Institute (http://www.icpri.com/moodle/) (this was $20 for the bloodborne pathogen course)

HIPAA: HIPAA Training - Online HIPAA Privacy Training, HIPAA Security Training (http://myhipaatraining.com) (this was $25)

I've been told that AUA accepts the certificates from both these places.

i'm just going to put this out there - I take offense to you saying that your courses were harder than mine when I went to the same school with probably the same professors. I worked very hard my 4th semester and didn't get anywhere near a 54 on my shelf exams. Also this another reminder that this is the clinical forum and not the basic science forum.

I'm sure you will deal with hipaa and osha after you take your step - if they're needed for 5th the school will inform you. Worrying about them now shouldn't be your main objective. Take your step, then come on the clinical forum and take heed to what others are writing - it's good to be prepared I agree, i did the same thing. The step is stressful enough without adding clinical rotations on top of it. Good luck.

I am an instructor and the director and a training center for my current organization. I'll be coming down for the Fall semester and will be happy to offer BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Blood-borne Pathogen classes and certification cards to AUA students transitioning into the clinical years or whenever AUA deems it necessary. This is just an early thought, but I'm throwing the idea out there...

The first semester students receive their BLS certification in DPS and the fourth semester students receives ACLS certification in ICM.

I was certified for both 2x for a research job that I held right before attending AUA. Do you know if the requirement is for EVER having the training / certification, or having it current within this year?

Thanks

Check to see if there's an expiration date on your certificates.

Thanks Sree,

Just dug my OSHA certificate out of a box in my parents house and it is only good for a year. Guess I'll add those two trainings to my load of stuff to do.

Thanks again.

Most hospitals require you to renew the HIPAA certification annually. I actually thinks that's a JHACO-compliance thing...

I just sent all my documents to the NY office and all of them were approved.

Looks like I found some good deals according to what some other people have mentioned.

Here is what I used for OSHA and HIPPA Certificaiton.

Probloodborne.com for OSHA, you can watch the videos and take the test, you don't pay until you get your certificate ($20)! If you payed attention in medical school you may even be able to skip some of the videos on HIV and Hepatitis, but you might as well just watch them all - they are short and to the point. Don't skip the ones on universal precuations, etc. as this is stuff that may save your life.

Hrclasroom.com HIPPA Fo' Free!!!!!!!!! I would give them a e-mail that you don't use too much just in case they sell your email (b/c they offer 5 trainings for free), although they have not spammed me yet, but when you get something for free I start to worry. Look under HIPPA for Healthcare Professionals.

HIPAA Privacy Training for Health Care Providers (http://www.hrclassroom.com/content/CourseInfo/HIPAAPrivacyTrainingforHCP.aspx)

Wow, this is nice. I recommend current 5th semester students take advantage of this.
