Can someone share their experience and what to expect out of IM and Surgery at Flushing?

I have heard bad things through the grapevine about their IM rotation. For example, they do not assign you to an intern; but rather, you are supposed to find an intern to work with you. I have heard good things about ob/gyn over there (you get to see lots of cases and they are supportive of students). I have not heard anything on surgery.

I pretty much did all of my rotations at flushing.
As to internal medicine, its a good learning environment, but its a bit disorganized. If you are interested in a field that requires internal medicine, I would do the core in another hospital, where you would not mind doing a residency, and then do my electives in flushing. The medicine electives in Flushing are really good because you are treated like a resident, the rounds are efficient and run by specialists that will teach every time, and you can do much more than a core rotation student.
I liked OB there, but you have to be pro-active. The residents there were eager to teach any student that was willing to help. the clinic was hit or miss depending on the attending and how busy it was. The gyn part was a killer because of the small number of students compared to the large amount of surgeries. However, the surgeons have different personalities there, and you need to be able to let things slide and come back the next day without holding a grudge.
As to surgery, there is plenty of one on one time with attendings, so if you let them know that you are interested in it, they will teach you the different surgical skills (suture, ties and what not). Also, there is a breast clinic run by a surgeon that finished a breast fellowship and she teaches very well there.
However, there are limitations to the surgery rotation at flushing: the lectures are really good, but few and far in between. Also, flushing is not a trauma hospital, so the variety is not there. Also, they have rotating residents from brookdale and SJE, so if you want a surgery residency, you should either do the core somewhere else, or do the core at flushing and do lots of surgical electives elsewhere.
Hope this helps.
