Does anyone know if a sprint cell phone will work in Grenada? I heard that T-mobile does but I am not sure about sprint.

Well, depends on what kind of phone you have... but my guess would be "no."
The cell phone companies down here are Cable and Wireless, Digicel and ATT Wireless. They all operate on 900/1800 MHz... whereas most US phones operate on 1900 mHz. They also use the SIM-card-based phones, rather than the TDMA/CDMA/etc phones that are used in the US.
So if you have a tri-band, SIM-card based phone, all you have to do is get a SIM card from one of the vendors down here to get a local number. I would recommend Digicel, since they currently have the cheapest rates, and it will work for semesters 5/6 in St. Vincent.
No T-mobile or Sprint service here. I too was told that it works, and had to finally give in & get DigiCel when I realized it was a myth. Also, had the HARDEST time trying to get carrier to unlock my GSM phone. My advise, get it unlocked while you're in the states, keep using your current provider till the last day & as soon as you get here, buy a DigiCel sim card (it cost just $23 EC AND it comes with a $10 EC credit, so ends up costing you, like, 5 american$) & drop it in your unlocked phone.
By the way, did you ever look at the per minute rates in the carribbean even where their service works?! They are thru the ROOF!! So I'd recommend digicel even if Sprint/Tmobile starts working here.
Good luck!

what do you mean "work"?if you mean roaming yes. T-mobile GSM phones can roam on Digicels network while in Grenada.
If you want to know if you can just remove the sim card from a T-mobile phone and put in any other company's sim no you can not like Tami said they are locked to a specific provider but can be unlocked just not in Grenada.

Hi mkumar,
I just received an email from Cable and Wireless Grenda regarding cell phone compatibility. Not too sure how much this will hep you, but they said their network supports any Digital TDMA and 850MhZ GSM phone.
You might find additional info you're looking for at their website:

Hope this helps!

OK. My t-mobile works in Grenada when I visit. It is a world phone, not "locked". You can buy those in the US or elsewhere. Check ebay. If you have international access with t-mobile then your phone will work, only the fees are on the high side...And YES, if you have an unlocked phone and they have GSM there, you can just swap the SIM cards and your phone will obtain the number of your cell phone from the Caribbean.
Calling the US from T-mobile/digicell roaming was about $2-3 US. Again, that is using my t-mobile fees/account, NOT a digicell SIM card from there.
