My undergrad degree was in Business, (no science classes) and my cumulative gpa was VERY low, 2.0. I worked full-time while earning my B.S. I also started a Masters in computer science 3 years ago, and didn't continue, and had mostly A's and B's. I am taking my post-bac science classes now, all the basics plus Anatomy, Physiology, Infectious Disease, and Brain Behavior. My gpa in these sciences is 3.6. So, which gpa does SGU weigh more heavily, my lousy cumulative 2.0, or my 3.6 science gpa? Do you think I stand any chance of being offered the premed program?

why wouldn't you take premed ( or have you already done it) stateside?

I dont recommend you doing premed at SGU. IT is not worth it financial to do it. Steph is right do it stateside at some state university and then apply both to the states and SGU. It will be cheaper and leave more options open to you later on. You will have enough debt once you start med school no need to start for the premed! Besides going through SGU premed does not assure you a spot in the med school unless you maintain a certain gpa I believe.

Thanks for responding, I should clarify my original post. I am NOW finishing up my premeds in the USA, and will be done very soon. My science Gpa is 3.6. Does SGU weigh the science gpa more heavily than the non-science gpa (of which I only have a 2..0/2.3 cumulative)?
I read in the brochure that there's a premed program for those not offered admissions, and they place you in a level which corresponds to
how much of the prereqs you've already completed. So, someone who already completed the prereqs would be placed in level 3, which is I think just one or two semesters, consisting of upper level science classes. If you maintain a "b" average, you start the regular MD program. Although my science gpa is 3.6, I am still concerned about not being admitted to the regular MD program b/c of my low non-science gpa. Any opinions?

You are right to be concerned about the low GPA, that can really hurt. Since you did so well in your sciences, i would really put a lot of emphasis on that when you write your personal statement. Call the school and speak with them. About the pre-med program, my wife will be taking a few classes from that program while we are down there. She already has a degree, but she needs her pre-med sciences for podiatry school. All the US pod schools will accept the credits from SGU if we go through some foreign equivalency certification thing. Anyways, if the money isn't a big deal and SGU offers you the option, go for it. You may want to apply to Ross and AUC, both are approved in all 50 states and both tend to accept qualified students which SGU rejects. of course there is no guarantee, but you may as well apply and see what happens.
