I just got the book list and I see that everything has a code that says it's either required, recommended, or optional. In the list they offer a laptop. Is it safe to assume they mean a laptop is required, and not that specific one that is being offered?

Thanks

You're correct! A laptop is require, not the particular one being offered by the Bookstore. As long as you have wireless capability, you should be fine. If you have any questions about compatibility, PM me and I will give you the email address of the IT Department. They can give you all the specs that you might need.

The new booklist has been published, however there are some "student recomended books" and some other "highly recomended books".Before I go all out and order every single book, can any current students tell me if these are work it? Here are the optional books:

1. Atlas of Anatomy, by Tank

2. Color Atlas of Anatomy, by Rohen

3. Lippincott‘s Illustrated Review of Biochemistry

4. BRS Gross Anatomy

5. BRS Cell Biology & Histology

6. BRS Embryology

7. BRS Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

8. Pretest Biochemistry & Genetics

Thanks alot!

I would recommend all of the BRS books, they are really helpful once you have already read the course book and for an outline. I would also say get the Lippincott review of Biochemistry, it has been very helpful to most students here. You can find the Pre Tests online from some sites, or other students, so I wouldn't buy it. The color atlas is also a good review source and is very helpful. Hope this helps.

thanks alot I will go ahead and order everything then, you have not commented on the first book, the "Atlas of anatomy" by Tank. Any opinion on that?
thanks

I can't comment on it because I don't have it and I havn't seen it yet here. Many of us purchased the Atlas of Clinical Gross Anatomy and with the color atlas they make great study aids.

F.Y.I - I wouln't recommend puchasing the Lab manual for histology. It is black and white and isn't really helpful with the class. The bookstore wants way too much for something that they made at Kinkos.

Hey Nikeman, why you wouldn't recommend the lab manual for histology? If i don't buy it what im gonna do with the lab when i don't have lab manual, any alternatives? Are you a current student? If so, what do you do when you don't have lab manual? Well, I can understand, if theres an alternative i wouldn't buy it either, to lessen the costs its too expensive. I added all the cost for only the required books and all those required items, its almost $1000.00 i haven't even included the highly recommended books and the student recommended BRS. Are these BRS really needed? Or i can do without them?

Any honest opinion is highly appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend the histology lab manual because there are a lot of students here that have not even used the manual yet. It is in Black and White and is just an expensive copy of the original color manual. The lectures given in class have numerous slides with labels that are more helpful for the lab portion of the course than the manual is. The school is asking way too much money for a copy that was probably made at Kinkos. If you know your way around the internet, or possible other students, you can get the BRS books in a pdf format. They are a pretty good outline and are helpful to me, but I don't think you need to buy them if you don't mind the pdf versions.

I am getting the book list ISBN numbers hopefully by the end of the business day...no one really has this list so they are trying to call the book company that they have contracted for their book store to get it from them. I would highly suggest just buying the books on your own through Amazon or anywhere online, buy used books and have them shipped by barrel if your already sending stuff in a barrel from miami, it works out ALOT cheaper that way. Also can i get the BRS PDF's through Torrent seraching?

I wish i could do that, buying books through amazon, im sure its a lot cheaper but how am i going to shipped them over there. I would think it would cost me the same if i order them through the school bookstore. I don't live in miami , i live in massachusetts. Oh you mean order the books let say from amazon and have them ship the books to saint kitts? is that what you mean? Ah its kind of risky, i would just buy them through the school in that way i won't worry about it. Okay guys thanks a lot for the replies.

Maybe one of the new students or preferrably someone from the school can help me. I was suppsoe to start in May but had to defer until Spetember. When I received the book list i began to buy my books. Now i see that there is a new book list and it seems like some things have changed. First, I wanted to know if we still needed the Atlas of Clinical Gross Anatomy. For the Grant's Dissector I bought the 13th edition. Is that one ok or do we need the 14th edition.

Also, I know some students along with myself have been asking for the ISBN numbers for the text books for a while now and we have not received a response from anyone in the school. Having the ISBN numbers will make it so much easier to find the books when we go buy them.
I think that if we would have had the ISBN nukbers from the beginning it would have saved me along with other students the hassle of now trying to sell back the books that were bought incorrectly.

You will be fine with the 13th ed of Grant's, it is just used as a guide in the lab. I think you should get the Atlas, it is very helpful and at least 1 person will have to bring it to lab each time you meet. Here are some of the ISBN's, hope they help

Atlas of Clinical Anatomy ISBN 0-3230-3744-5
Gray's Anatomy ISBN 0-443-06676-0 (Multimedia edition package)
Gray's Anatomy ISBN 0-443-07168-3 (Book only)
Physiology ISBN-13: 978-1-4160-2320-3
Histology ISBN-13: 978-0-07-144116-2
Lippincott's Biochemistry ISBN-13: 978-0-7817-6960-0
Devlin Biochemistry ISBN 0-471-67808-2

...be careful what you buy. i don't know many people who haven't had at least one problem with our new york "bookstore". make sure you know which classes you will be taking and don't buy books that you don't need. i used the lipincott biochem book, and the BRS help some people... the regular texts that are required for the classes are fine. the histo lab manual is NOT recommended... over $60US for a black and white copy... anyway... and DON'T buy embryo books... we bought books for embryo, and didn't even have it this semester. and if you buy all the books on this list like i did.. thinking... well, i don't want to NOT have something and then get behind... be careful... there were two atlases on our list, and i bought both and have only used one...
