For students planning on matriculating in Fall 2004, I would recommend considering this summer program if you haven't been in school for a while or your anatomy knowledge is weak.

SGU won't give you credit for the course regardless of how well or poorly you perform, but taking the course could potentially alter your success in your first term. Anatomy is by far the heaviest course load due to the sheer volume and speed at which information has to be learned.

My suggestion would be only those unsure of their anatomy groundings or those who are bad a memorization spend the extra money and take the course. Seeing and studying the material once before coming to SGU, could give you a tremendous cushion allowing you to focus on all of your courses rather than just anatomy.

I didn't attend the program, but I know someone who did and she said it gave her a huge confidence boost and much more time in her first term.

I on the otherhand most certainly would not recommend it. Youre coming to med school to learn all this stuff ofr the first time. If you need a "Tremedous cushion" now, you'll find it doesnt get any easier later. Everyone coming to med school save for an odd few have no anatomy let along being "Unsure of it". And most of med school is memorization. True, it might make youre first term a bit easier but I wouldnt waste extra money for something you're going to learn anyway and if this extra prep is a make or break senario for you to get by, you are just likely delaying the inevitable into the second term- each term has more info. First term is supposed to be the hardest in the sence that it is learning in a new way and a shock to the system. I think its better to get it over with now rather than later. Having said that, if you have money to spare, it certainly might give you a sence of confidence havnig that under your belt. JUst remember you will have many more credits without that confidence builder. Besides its your last term without living with med school and being a doctor. Why not enjoy? I will say an organized cours is better than trying to make the foolish mistake of studying firs term stuff on your own. Good luck.
