Anyone attending UMHS this May for sure?? If so, post it up...it would be nice to know others who also plan on being part of the first graduating class.

I am going to be part of the May class. I am looking forward to this education. I still need to find housing down there, but it is hard because the database is almost full of "not available" apartments.

Your best bet with any of these Carib schools is to go to the island early and personally look for a place.

I just got into the May '08 session...was wondering if anyone could help with the housing situation. What's the closest area to campus? Is it necessary to get a used vehicle or is public transportation pretty good if the housing is a bit further away from campus? I'm planning to get to St.Kitts a little b4 registration/orientation. Is one day enough to look around for housing or should I have something ready b4 I get there or should I plan on staying in a hotel for the first few days b4 I'll find housing? Any help will be much appreciated :) Also, does anybody know how many students are registered for the first batch?

Camps, Mattingley, West Farm and Boyds are the closest areas (walking distance) to campus. If you live in any other area you'll have to either get a vehicle or use the public transportation which is pretty reliable. Getting housing in one day might be possible, but remember that there are other schools on the island who also have students starting in May.

Biggest "poblem" with housing is Ross Vet school next door, as you have to compete with them for nearby housing. Search the housing database. If you see something that says "avaiable" that you like, call the housing office and ask them to hold it for you.
Plan to arrive at least 2-3 days earlier to get adjusted! The earlier the better!
Wise Owl Gal,
You have gotten some good advice here. Housing is at a premium and arriving without having a place to stay will mean that you are rushed to find something quickly. Hotels are also expensive so you can run up a high bill while you are looking around. Please take the advice of Skull and fruit2o. You will have a much more pleasant experience if you do. Use the Housing Database and communicate by email with the Housing Office. Instead of looking frantically for an apartment when you arrive on island, you will be able to get a phone set up, open your bank account and get to see a little of the island with the other students who are arriving. (Once classes start, your opportunities to sightsee will be more limited!)
As for the number of students arriving for May 08, I think you can expect about 30 classmates. We have been getting a lot of interest lately so that number may rise, but it is a good estimate for now.
To Skull and fruit2o,
Thanks for the good information. You are spot on!

You guys can also check out SKNvibes.com. That's the federation's own newspaper/reporting site. They have classified listings for houses for rent.

Hey guys
did anyone get the required book list? I just got mine in the email today and I noticed there was no book on the list for Physio. Did they change the cirriculum?

Yeah apparently they are getting a different physio book. Last I email I got it said it was going to be Physiology [Stars]. However, I looked that book up and couldn't find anything on it.

I am accepted for May 08 but the Admissions accept me on probation. They told me that I need to pass all my MD 1 classes if not I will dismiss from the program. I am worried and I have a second thought about entering MD program on probation. I need to make my final decision this week. What do you think about this situation? I need your advice guys.

well have u been accepted to another school? if u havent and this is really it for u, id say go for it. I mean you jus have to make sure u dont fail anything and jus study really hard! even if u have been accepted to other schools, jus look and see which school is better and which is a better opportunity for you..if u work hard this one sem, then u will be off probation and you will also set urself up for a good work ethic :)...plus i think being on probation gives u that extra motivation not to fail or do bad :)

I have been accepted through Xavier, Windsor and UMHS but I choose UMHS cause I find out that they very helpful in the process and working very hard to establish the school. Windsor does not have loan. I don’t really like Xavier.

Well if loans are a big issue, u will have noticed that many caribbean schools have lost their funding..I think UMHS will be ur best choice, even if u r on probation. I think u r only on probation for one semester, so it will be fine :)

Anything is possible in todays financial loan situation, CitiBank could be lost out of no where just like some other huge companies did. I really hope this doesnt happen though or I would need to go somewhere else then!
