So all SGU students get the same written exam, regardless of where they are doing clinicals. What about oral exams? are these given to students? if so, how are they graded, and are they given alone or in groups? Just curious, if anyone wants to answer. thanks

I finished my 3rd year cores last year, and since then the written exams have changed. However, all students sill get the same written exam. The oral exams vary by hospital to hospital as different preceptors give exams. For example, my oral exam in OB/GYN was a case presentation, while I heard other students were actually given a more traditional oral exam.

At my husbands hospital some oral exams were one on one and some in groups. SOme were presentations on powerpoint and some were straight up questions. There are a bunch of written exams in circulation. Like my husband had one version of an exam for surgery and his friend had a different one at the same hospital.

We are supposed to be graded based on a combination of the oral exam, written exam, and overall performance (or as I like to call it: "voodoo"). I believe this mysterious combo is 20%, 20%, and 80%. But really, it's all voodoo, because different preceptors have very different ideas about grading. Most that I encountered were fair, but keep that in mind.

I never did this, but you can always ask him/her what their system is.
