Hi I am currently entering my fourth year and am preparing for the match.

I am very interested in Radiation Oncology , however I have an unsettling feeling about obtaining a residency coming from sgu ( my USMLE step 1 244/99 / all great evaluations prettymuch all A's). I have not done research however the rad onc directors I have talked to have not emphasized it at all!

Is it unwise go just go for rad onc and not consider any alternatives? It is a (for lack of a better word) awesome field ! and is what i want to do , now i just need some direction on how to get there. My second choice us IM heme/onc. ANy suggestions stephew iif you have any time your advise would be appreciated.
Regards ,
RR

The unfortunate reality is that it is insanely hard to get a radonc spot as an img right now. that doesnt mean dont try, but it means have a backup plan. The residency directors you spoke with may not have discussed research but WITHOUT QUESTION it is a variable that is key.
. I can better address this then. Also where did you do a radonc rotation?

i was also very interested in rad onc, and spoke w/ attendings during my rotation... they all told me that its gotten veeeeeeeery competitive over the last several years, ppl who usually get in are MD PhD's with long CVs. that kinda got me discouraged... let me know if u find out smth more encouraging:)
