Can someone please enlighten me on how the entrance exam and interview are conducted in the first faculty of medicine, charles university in prague?
as in, how many questions will be posed either orally or in the multiple choice?
and what kind of questions will pop out during the interview?
i'm really nervous as i'm sitting for it this april..

thank you very much ^^

The entrance exam is based on 3 subjects:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics/Math

You can check the course syllabi for each individual subjects on the Charles First Faculty Website (Univerzita Karlova - UK (http://www.cuni.cz))

You are allowed to take a calculator with you for the physics/math part.

There are 30 questions in each section (total = 3 sections).

The questions are all multiple choice...and when I say multiple choice, I mean it!!! (each question can have 1 or 2 or 3 or all answers correct). So it can be quite tricky (especially for biology and chemistry).

The interview is merely a formality. Once you make it through the entrance, you're pretty much guaranteed an admission. That being said, don't underestimate the interview either. If at all you do have to attend an interview (as it's not very common), they ask you why do you want to pursue medicine and stuff like that. But for some students (in case their entrance exam scores were border-line, they might ask a question or two).

Trust me...you'll do fine and you'll get in. The biggest advantage in your case is that you're taking it early (which has some good advantages now and for the rest of your medical school career). Just revise all the basic info. If you don't mind me asking, are you sitting the exam in Prague or in any other country?

ooh, i see..
i've asked around and some people have told me that there are only 15 questions, yet others tell me that there are 30. and there are some who said the entrance exam would be conducted orally @_@ thats why i was confused.

thank you very much for your reply
i'll be sitting for it in malaysia on the 26 of april. and the next day would be the interview by one of the persons-in-charge from the first fac in prague.

I'm sure you'll do well. All the malaysians usually pass and they are quite hard working which is what sails them through medical school...good luck with everything.

i passed the entrance exam! =D
Thanks Shrey!
umm, is there any information about what kind of questions and the way to talk to the professors during the interview?
do they ask about recent medical news and general knowledge?

Well in my case, they just asked me silly stuff like why do I want to do medicine or what motivated me and the virtue of team work in medicine. That being said, do give them good, intellectual answers. I don't think they ask you any questions relating to do with general knowledge in the field of medicine or anything. The interview is just a formality. The main part is the test. Congratulations (or rather as the czechs say: gratuluju!)

Just be humble to the profs./dean. You don't need to go overboard with respect either as they will notice that.

thanks very much! i went for the interview with Professor Otomar Kittnar today. after some questions, he told me that i was accepted. there were 9 of us from my college who passed the entrance exam , and all of us got through the interview! =)
all of us had a question or two regarding the syllabi, mostly on the cardiac system, since he's interested in that haha. he is such a nice person!
i just want to thank you very much Shrey =D

I've just taken the June 17th entrance exam and written an ebook about the exam and the experience. They no longer allow you to use calculators for the Physics part. You can get a copy of my ebook on my blog at journalmd.com.

You're charging people $20 to find out about your experiences with the entrance exam!! Are you mad!!

There are practise questions on the faculty sites!!

You don't actually think that they give everyone the same test do you?

Hope you keep up your blog though as it should be interesting to read about someone elses exoerience at the Charles University.

I smell a Scam! Stop placating on the dreams of others.

Research previous posts for information regarding entrance procedures. If possible, go to Prague and determine firsthand if the school will suit your needs.

I agree, and yeah, make sure you get their notes :D But you will have a better feeling if you do well without help ;-)
