You should contact Ms. Britto's office in Manipal: foradmission@manipal.edu .

KMCIC is a totally different program from KMC's MBBS. I would say the odds of NRI acceptance into KMC's MBBS program are pretty slim considering supply and demand for seats. Their NRI quota is something like 12 per year(?).

I think Tipton is talking about NRIs getting into KMC on merit.

It's not that hard to get in as an NRI, but they require a "donation" (= suitcase full of cash). The total amount you pay is around 60-70,000 USD and that's your tuition for the six years. It works the same way at pretty much every Indian school that I've heard of.

Yea, Sree..i talked to Ms. Britto abt this and she told me tht they receive abt 700 application and accept abt 70 and the fees would be $135000 for the next 5 yrs....i noe its way too much but kmc being rated as #5 in india, they can ask for whatever they want:( other colleges in india charge abt $75000 but they are all government colleges and don't really prepare u for USMLE, so iam still weighing my options:confused: ....not 2 sure yet...wuts ur opinion on it?

I think 135k is a bit much for not getting access to US clinical rotations...If you want to practice in the US, you're better off going to AUA or KMCIC. It's around the same amount of money, and you can rotate here. There are several reasons for doing US clinicals including access to pre-matches that many of my classmates have been getting, good letters of recommendations, the ability to do away electives at American schools, and the ability to audition in the departments into which you plan to match.

The only advantage of going to KMC that I can think of is 50-state approval.

Hey Sree do you know how well KMCIC prepares students for the USMLE and do you know of students in the twinning program who are praciticing or doing clinical rotations?

I honestly don't know. I think it's too early to tell, but if I bump into any of them in Harbor this August, I'll find out.

There are only 5 or 6 students back from KMCIC who are in 5th Semester currently or just recently completed 5th Semester...so we'll see how they do on Step 1. Next Sept 5th Semester should have another 30 or so coming back from Manipal.

Mr. Tipton,

I wanted to know how many students are currently attenteding KMCIC and is the basic science program similar to that in AUA as from what I understand that basic science in KMC starts with a repeat of organic chemistry and physics.

I am considering applying to KMCIC because of the atmosphere and the campus seems much more well established although i'm not sure how well students are prepared for the USMLE when compared to AUA.

Nobody REALLY knows at this point how well KMCIC is preparing students for Step 1 because no KMCIC student has taken Step 1 yet that I know of.

Not sure what you mean by repeating Org Chem.

Manipal University is very nice. I just got back from visiting about a month ago. Who knew that a modern world-class university exists in the middle of rural, SW India?

Once students complete the Basic Sciences in Manipal , do they goto Miami to do the "Introduction of Clinicals" as the AUA students do in order to prepare for the USMLE?

Yes. Students from KMCIC enter the same 5th Semester curriculum as AUA students. They actually become AUA students when coming back to the US for 5th Semester and Clinical Rotations.

Hi,

I am a Canadian Grade 12 student at present.

I was wondering you could please help me with some of my questions regarding KMC.

First of all, I was talking to one of their people on phone yesterday and he kind of confused me.
Could you please tell me that after completing the BSc health sciences program that they are offering, and the guy said that after completing 4 years in India and then 2 years in US, I can work as a Doctor in US? Is it true that the Health scienes degree is equivalent to the MD Degree?

Thanks a lot

Your MD is provided by University of Antigua upon completion. You are getting your Bachelors in Science from Manipal.
