Virginia Licensure Requirements?

I am asking anyone who as been through the Virginia Licensure process a few questions concerning the stringency of their requirements. I know that all cores have to be ACGME. I did all but two of my cores in the US at programs that have residency programs at the institution at which I rotated. I completed pediatrics in Dominica, so I highly doubt that will be a problem.
Surgery, on the other hand, I completed at Mount Vernon Hospital. This hospital does not have a surgery residency but residents from a neighboring hospital (sound shore medical center) do rotate through. Sound Shore Medical Center does have a ACGME surgery program affiliated with New York Medical College. Also Mount Vernon is part of the Sound Shore Health System which comprises Sound Shore Health System and Mount Vernon, but this affiliation is not reflected on the ACGME website. Mount Vernon does have its own Internal Medicine Residency, but with no affiliation to any University.
Now, what I am asking is, will Virginia see my surgery rotation as "green" since Mount Vernon is a part of the Sound Shore Health System, which also encompasses Sound Shore Medical Center which has a surgery residency through New York Medical College?

They did it at Sound Shore or Mount Vernon?

the only thing i know about virginia (which has nothing to do with your question), is that they don't count family medicine as a core. but they do want all cores to be green. your rotation still sounds pretty legitimate.

cores and electives have to be where there is an accredited residency in place.

no mention specifically about ACGME, so it seems that AOA would be ok, but there must be residents present.

suggestion is to get the L6 for cali and see if they use the sound shore ACGME #- if that is the case, you're probably ok.

to be absolutely sure, call the va board.

On my MyRoss account, the surgery core is listed as having been completed at sound shore, even though I physically completed it at Mount Vernon. For what its worth, the surgery residents do rotate through Mount Vernon and the Surgery students go to Sound Shore once a week for formal didactic sessions. The two hospitals are part of the same health system, and have been for 11 years. The only part that concerns me is the fact that Mount Vernon is not listed on the ACGME website as being a training site for Sound Shore surgery residency. Perhaps during the course of the Va Board investigation, they will contact Mount Vernon and see that Sound Shore Residents do indeed rotate through and that will be sufficient.

well this is the wording from the Va Regulations governing the practice of medicine. I guess I interpret it more strictly, meaning that all my clinical training done in the US needs an approved residency program present.

i'm from va and plan on practicing in va, so i don't want anything to interfere!

The reason I mention that only cores need to be green is the fact that I know someone who did a radiology elective at a hospital that does not sponsor a radiology residency who is currently completing a residency in Virginia. And in Virginia, you need a license to be a resident/intern.
I'm hoping in my case that the Mount Vernon Rotation, since there is an affiliation with Sound Shore, (Sound Shore Surgery residency is sponsored by New York Medical College) and the fact that the Sound Shore Surgery Residents do rotate through Mount Vernon as part of their curriculum, will be seen as green- A lot like the way that Wyckoff Pediatrics and Ob/Gyn would be seen as green because Residents from Ob/Gyn and Peds at other institutions do rotate at Wyckoff, even though Wyckoff, in and of itself, does not have Peds and OB. Gyn residencies. I should point out that Mount Vernon does not have a Family Residency Program, so I'm going to have to make the presumption that the Mount Vernon Surgery core is green due to the fact that the Sound Shore Surgery Residents complete rotations there. Of course, I don't know how strictly the Va board interprets this. Which is why I am asking other people who may be in my situation for their experiences.

really? i thought you had to have 2 years PGY training to get intial licesnure in Va for IMGs (AMGs can get it after the intern year)- so i figuree it was a training license for the 1st 2 years. hmmm.... gonna have to check that out...

i think you probably will be ok, since is says sound shore- i wonder why mt vernon isn't listed on the sound shore acgme site. I know sgu student were rotating there, but i think they stopped last year.

Sound Shore doesn't mention Mount Vernon for surgery, which is what has me a little concerned. But I don't know when Sound Shore started rotating their surgery residents through Mount Vernon, so the ACGME website may not be updated to reflect this.
