yo, has anyone here lived in the school dorms for any of their years at med school... specifically im talking about szeged or debrecen. if so is it pooh pooh ( and yes, i wrote pooh pooh to save the forum from having to sensor) or is it actually good? what are even the benefits of renting a flat outside of campus? thanks...

benefits of renting a flat outside of "dorms" are SEVERAL, independence, privacy, lack of noise in the dorms.
Also the Student Hostel in Debrecen is famous for stealing things from students. They stole nearly $1000 worth of materials from me, including television, VCR, etc. When I asked them to review the video tapes that easily projected that area, they refused to do so, stating that the
"cameras didn't work"
pure scam artists, these organizations that so called care about your living and accommodation, they are the most fierce and cutthroat, liars and thieves that you can possibly ever imagine,
Enema and Student Hotel aka Diak Hotel. Stay away from these two corrupt agencies, you can find a flat on your own with connections in the city.
These two agencies -- Enema and Diak (Student) Hotel, are rogue ripoff places that want nothing more than to steal your money.
Invest in a newspaper, maybe not even one US dollar, and find someone who speaks and can read Hungarian and translate it for you, and go from there.
OR go to the Theoretical Building in the University, or the Educational office, there are always SEVERAL apartments available for rent there.
But if you go through Szusza, who runs Enema, or the Student Hotel, aka Diak Hotel, you WILL GET several several hundreds of dollars stolen from you -- and
MARK MY INFAMOUS WORDS YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF.
Enema is FAMOUS for stealing several several months deposit in money, which is promised to the students to get back after the stay in the apartment. Believe me 100% of the time, INCLUDING MYSELF, they keep the deposit, and claim that you "damaged" the rooms.
They are the most crooked and corrupt agencies.
Who is going to listen to the foreigner who got ripped off by the local renting agency? You got it right, NOBODY.
I lived in an AMAZING apartment for close to 4 years, unfortunately had to leave it due to my clinical rotations in the US. My landlord was ALWAYS prompt and never ripped me off, or even tried to.
I found this apartment basically on my own, with help from outsiders. I did not rely on any ridiculous agency.
You can do it on your own, but it takes more diligence and persistence. If you rely on others to "help" you, such as Enema and Szusza, you will learn quickly, that these individuals have nothing more than your wallet in mind. Once you sign their contract, you will be treated like GARBAGE.
Use your own resources, and do not rely on others.... this is the key.
