hey guys

can u pls give ur insights on these 2 schools? Do different states in the US credit the rotations UERM students do in NY and chicago? does UERM have up to date facilities? does ASMPH have affiliations abroad? i know Med city in ortigas is really good but is it worth going to ASMPH since its new and they havent produced a batch of graduates and successful board takers yet? pls reply soon...need to decide pretty soon

The UERM rotation in NY is not a 'greenbook' program. Some states like CA requires greenbook rotation. Have you checked St. Louis University located in the summer capital of the Philippines? Sorry if I deviated a little bit.

Hey nimzter !

Are you a Filipino? Well if you are from Manila then you may choose any of the 2 school both are good. I think ASMPH doesn't yet have any rotation / internship programs in partnership w/ US Hospitals.

When did Ateneo get a medical school? Is it news? I was there last year and they didnt have one yet. Are they even credited yet? UE is a great school with a well established rep. Also look into UST, FEU, St. Luke, DLSU, UP. There are many options in Manila. Good luck

Ateneo's pioneer class started just last year (2007) and they have 75 students already, which is much more than they expected for the 1st yr, half of who are from the Ateneo undergrad school, right now it may not be so popular yet because they havent produced a batch that has taken the board as yet...but someday im sure it will be one of the top..
UP - public school, my brain isnt like einstein', im not a fil citizen
UST - from the posts on several forums it seems that the admin isnt too foreigner friendly? besides i heard its crazy hard, theres the revalida and yeah its all the way in Espana...got no plans of traveling back and forth every single day...and definitely no plans of moving into the Manila area
St. Lukes - has pre requisites for med (my major wasnt ** Bio)
FEU - super far, dont know much abt it
DLSU - in Cavite, so thats definitely a no
which is why im down to UERM or ASMPH
and the only thing i do like about UERM is the clerkship in the states but now ppl are sayin it isnt green book (does that mean its useless?)
ASMPH - new, super nice environment, located in ortigas (super convenient) affiliated with med city and im sure parking is not at all a problem there, dual degree (masters in management and doctor of medicine) and yeah, its still ateneo no matter what!
hehe some reasons sound pretty petty but the physical environment plays a big role in my performance and ugly places are anxiety producing factors for me, not to mention major stressors, i need an environment conducive to learning, UERM doesnt have tht kinda environment, i know its a really good school and stuff tho...ehhehe this is mind boggling!!

yeah thats the sad part...i know eventually ASMPH will have amazing programs and affiliations...its just tht i need to enroll this june...or next june wud be the max...medicine takes forever!! lol

Both schools are good in my opinion. The only disadvantage of ASMPH is that some states require the school to be at least 5-7 years before they can license you. If you are the first applicant, there will be some grandfathering involved and it takes a lot of work. UERM is also in Manila but I will agree that Ateneo's school environment will be nicer.
