View Full Version : How will losing Caritas spots effect the current 120 students in 5th semester?

Assuming most of us in 5th semester make it out of here or are not taking a 6th, we have at least 110 people who will want to start clinicals this summer or fall... Does anyone know what exactly is going on with Caritas? I think tomorrow is the date that AUC students who are currently in the health system (Wycoff, etc) doing rotations have to leave and find other rotations.... How many students are we talking here? 2 or 3? or 20-30? With all that's happened lately with the Caritas lawsuit (http://dockets.justia.com/docket/court-flsdce/case_no-1:2008cv20374/case_id-309792/), followed by the resignation of the Clinical Sciences Dean (Dr. S), and the fact that the new Clinical Dean is apparently on the Board of Rocky Vista (http://www.rockyvistauniversity.org/for_profit.asp) (which I assume getting a new med school up and running will be a huge time commitment), I'm concerned about the state of our clinical department.

I'm not saying we're all doomed.. it would be nice to hear from students currently effected by losing Caritas spots their input, so we can at least bring that up in our next Clinical discussion (or perhaps it's more accurately described as clinical "lecture in which you aren't allowed to ask any questions to the lecturer or anyone in the clinical department").

It's actually for the better. Yes, more spots would get you out faster, but then again, you won't be learning much so the extra time you have to put towards independent study makes it not worth it. There are plenty of spots in New York and worst case scenario, if you have to wait a month or two, it's well worth the wait to get a QUALITY rotation.

...unless you're a 4th or 1st semester ;)

I am new to this forum and have not yet joined the AUC community yet, but while doing research on carib schools have heard even with the Caritas issues that students still will be able to perform rotations at other sites and that there might be more sites added? Have students had problems or is this all conjecture?

supposedly they are in final negotiations for new spots and by the time you get here if you come it will probably be an entirely different situation. to quote one of the clinical deans, its a dynamic situation, not static
