I am wondering how does one decide between Lutheran, Maimo, NY Methodist, Queens/Elmhurst in terms of doing 4th year electives??? which one is strong in what area like medicine/surg/OB/ med electives???

I dont think you can really go wrong with Methodist for electives. I did neuro and pul there and thought they were excellent - great attendings willing to teach and a good diverse patient base. i would however stay away from their ob dept though

I agree - Methodist has good medicine electives, I did heme/onc, and probably pretty decent surgical electives. However, if you are interested in surgery, you may want to check out LUtheran because I think they have a trauma elective. I also agree about avoiding the OB/Gyn department at Methodist.

Everything. I don't even like talking about it I'm so scarred from the experience.

I only did my OB/Gyn core at Maimonides so I don't have experience to compare it to other places...but I thought it was a pretty good experience. I scrubbed into quite a few C-sections and Gyn surgeries and the residents/attendings would explain things as long as I asked. The Ob experience was similar, in that the residents would get me involved and explain things as long as I showed interest. I'm sure other people may have had a worse time, but that's how it was for me....
