What is the day to day attire for clinicals?
Is it for the most part ICM attire or button down and polo shirts?

depends on where/what you're doing. For the most part if you're a guy: tie, shirt, and slacks are the order of the day. To play it safe, arrive for your first day in the forementioned attire.

yep professional attire = tie, shirt, slacks (no jeans) shoes (no tennis shoes) and short white coat.. remember you represent your school when you show up for clinicals.

My friend rotated with a guy that showed up everyday in jeans...Needless to say, he did not do well and was asked to leave the physician's office. Some of the girls in my rotation (in NYC) wear the nYC style tights and dress-like shirts with boots. Some of them have been reprimanded because of the length of the dress and such. Slacks, shirt and tie for men, skirt/slacks and conservative top for the women. Common sense seems basic but you would be surprised.

Be Conservative!!! Don't be too flashy.

More than likely in OB/Gyn and Surgery you will wear scrubs most of the time, but it is appropriate to wear shirt/tie/slacks the first day of the rotation (unless told otherwise), and to clinics.

Just a sidenote, but somewhat related.

I read an article in a journal last year (I'm sorry but I can't remember which one), that talked about the level of trust patients had in their physicians based on dress styles. The study found that physicans who dressed professionally (shirt, tie, slacks), were more likely to be trusted by their patients than those who showed up in jeans or scrubs.

Interesting.

Even though neckties have been proven to be fomites that spread pathogens within the hospital. Thats why I wear bowties.

Props to sukhtinder...I'ma try that n then post my experiences. I really really really hate ties...

Please don't make your medical students wear ties. Let them come in wearing scrubsss...

I have plenty of experience being a patient (been operated on 3 times, plus multiple broken bones from football, hockey, etc etc) and I can honestly say I prefer a doctor in scrubs. It just makes me feel like they are more ready to "get down and dirty and WORK"
