Hi guys - I need to supply my co-signor with an approx. yearly budget to expect via loans. So I would like to get the following info:
1. How much are you borrowing per year (rough estimate)
2. Through who? Federal or private
3. What in your opnion is the LEAST amount a student could get by on?

Thanks!

You take out 1 semester at a time so just calculate for 1 semester and multiply by 3 for a year.

Tuition + fees: $13,215
Housing: $400-650 per month
Airplane flight and you are from la jolla: $900 per semester round trip
Food: $400 per month and be comfortable
Books: $200 per semester, you really can spend even less
Phone: $100 per semester

Now see what else your needs are and factor that in.

Really with $800-$1000 per month spending money for all that, you would be more than happy (and that covers housing, food, expenses)

I would not take out more than $17,000 per semester but that's me

I would suggest applying for the full amount from the Grad plus and Stafford loans thourgh sallie mae that the school offers and determine your spending habits. It would suck to pull out less money in trying to be frugal and have nothing towards the end of the semester. This amount that they offer (like $23k a semester) is more than enough to survive, I had three kids a wifey down with me and still was able to save money. Although I some singlets that burnt through this money by the end of the semester. Don't ask me how.

In Dominica, survived on $16 K (Full Statford Loans $9250 plus alternative of $6250. and went home every semester except 3rd) In the clinicals, took out about 19K (Full Statford Loans plus alternative loan of 9 K)
