Low DPS Score
I need some advice. I checked my mini 1 scores for first semester this morning. I did good on Anatomy, biochem, and histology (got A's and B's), however this may sound lame but i did not make it in the DPS. The MPS was 60 and i ended up gettting a 53. one more correct question and i would have made the MPS.

I did not study for DPS at all and did not even media site the lectures. I was kind of depending on what people told me that it is pretty easy, but i guess i was wrong. I studied my *** off for the other stuff so i did well. Can someone please give me some advice if i will be able to pull it off in the DPS. I am worried about it at this stage. With a 53 is it still possible to get back on the track. I mean i will obviously study my butt of for it this time and not underestimate it.

Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. thanks...

OK. The way you answer a DPS question is you read the question and then ask yourself how your grandmother would want you to answer the question. Try it with some practice questions. It should work about 75-80% of the time.

The way I did well in DPS was don't think too hard, if you are thinking too much, you will get the question wrong.

Choose the most straight-forward answer, avoid lead-in questions, like
You have pain in your back, right?

I always chose the 1st answer that grabbed my eye and did fine. I told that advice to some other people last semester and it seemed to help. Remember DPS is not biochem, so there are no tricks, just pretend you have a patient in front of you, what would you say. It is the same thing that the thecure4u is saying. ;)

Hope that helps.

DPS is a gimmie, your performance at mini one was addmitedly due to improper study methods. Honestly, just go to the lectures (no mediasite, you pay attention more) and then review the night before the test (the slides) and this should be more then sufficient for you to up your grade to an A by semester 2 - plus it has the easiest Shelf exam, so you dont need to count on taking a hit at the end of the year.
Hope that helps - shrug it off dude - you passed the hard ones, thats all that matters.

You answered your own question. Completely blowing off a class and expecting to do well is foolish even if it's DPS. It's an easy class, but you need to look over the material at least once to know what the prof. is looking for. You should be able to bring that grade upto a B if not an A if you study a bit for it.

Well, you admitted to doing absolutely no studying for DPS to the point where you didn't even watch the lectures! Yes, DPS is easy when you put time into it but it's not easy enough that you can completely ignore it! You can still get your grade up but you better at LEAST watch the lectures (or go to the lectures) and read through the power points a few times. If you do that and understand everything, you should be able to bounce back.

I was in the same situation as you (did well on everything except DPS). I had 51 from what i remember without going or studying for the class. What i ended up doing was watching the lectures for DPS about 5-6days (1-2 lectures a day) before mini. Then quick review of the notes the night before. Like someone said above, answer the questions as if you are not a medical student answering them and you should be fine. Dont overthink the questions.....They dont use DPS to weed out students :) thats what Biochem is for !

Just watch the lectures, take notes and review for an hour... If you cant do that, you deserve to fail DPS...
