hello, i need honest advice. I am torn right now. I got accepted to the med program for jan 09. I am currently a single mom. The question i have for yall is do you think i can complete the medical program as a single mother or should I let a relative watch my son in the states while i complete the program without my son :(.

Is it an option to bring a relative with you to the islands to help with your son?

Tough question, all the best.

I am on another island in med Term 1 and my boys (2 and 4) are in daycare full-time. While my husband is with me, there have been single moms that have gone through the SGU med program. One in particular was able to hire a great nanny.

A little guy like that really needs his Mommy and I know its a hard decision, but I think it would be much easier on you to have him near you as you go through school. You could probably also hire a cleaning lady or even someone to cook for you. I'm not sure about the sig others organization there but there are also SO's here that watch other student's kids during the day (for a fee of course).

There are options. I think you can have your dream and share it with your son.

Good suggestions above. SGU has a large and active Significant Others Group for friends and family of students, perhaps they could help. Here's link to their site. http://soorgsgu.googlepages.com/

Does Saba have a similar group?

its a personal question, but you asked....

is the father not in the picture? can he help out?

another option is, well, to wait a couple of more years- a 3-4 year old (while more...well, more) needs less in terms of constant care and pediatrician visits- time it right and you can be back stateside when he is ready to start kindergarten. A good nanny, like knoganut mentioned will be helpful (and help is more affordable on the island than in the states).

gl with your decesion!

You probably already know this, but you will have to have full custody (court papers in hand) or a notarized letter from the father to take the child out of the country.

Good Luck!
