Hey Guys,

So I have been accepted into both Saba and Ross for May 08, and I am having a ahrd time deciding where to go. I have heard great things about both school, but I have heard a lot of negativity about Ross and so I just need some opinion on where I should go and which school is better. I mean after all the hard work you dont want to be at a disadvantage because you didnt do a clinical rotation and do bad on your step 2. so opinion is appreciated. thanks

This topic has come up before; do a search and I'm sure you'll find lots.
Best of luck in whatever you decide!

Saba is the better school by far. Better clinicals, better learning environment and much smaller class size compared to Ross. However, Ross is the more recognizable school; it's the brand name for Caribbean medical schools.

Students from both schools have had much success. Ross as a larger school has more clinical opportunities in general, but is a more competitive atmosphere, particularly in 1st semester. Saba on the other hand is a small school on a small island with a more cooperative atmosphere. Basically its big school vs. small school, you just have to figure out what environment suits you best. Also, don't forget to look at the differences in cost and loan options. Ross has federal stafford loans, but is more expensive than Saba. Ross has approval in Texas, Saba still doesn't. Ross has a strong Miami connection if that appeals to you.

Hey Guys,

I have heard a lot of negativity about Ross

I think you just answered your own question. Ross does have a stronger rep/better known than Saba but is having difficulties with clinicals.

SGU would give you the advantages of the strong rep. and no worry clinicals. Did you apply to SGU?

You seem to be the only person spreading bad rumors about Ross clinicals. I wonder how much you get from the other schools for that. Let someone else complain for crying out loud.

yeah right. The word has been going around for a while now that Ross's clinicals are going down the tubes.

besides that you come to Saba a mushy girly man and you leave with mighty quads and giant gluteus maximus from the Saba hills..Ross, its owned by the same company that owns the Devry Institute of trucking... you too can learn to drive a big rig while earning a medical degree....

I have a friend who graduated from Ross 2 semesters ago, and they did not like the island nore were they satisfied with the clinical rotations at Ross. I am not trying to bad mouth the school, I am just saying what I heard first hand from an alumni.

Cavalletti, no i did not apply to SGU. I had just applied to Saba cause its so small and prepares you well and never have I heard any negativity about the school. I just applied to Ross to have a second choice and I applied late like a month ago and then ended up getting in so I was trying to decide. I think I have made up my mind to attend SABA!!!!

and Boulderunner, I dont want to become a truck driver thats why I am going to SABA!!! HAHA

I guess that's why there's a 5-star thread in the Ross forum with 266 replies called "Ross Clinical Complaints: AIR THEM OUT HERE!!! (http://www.valuemd.com/ross-university-school-medicine/147335-ross-clinical-complaints-air-them-out-here.html) "

It's a good thing there is such a thread or the OP and others like them may not be making informed decisions.

Meddoctor.....Congratulations on your decision, all the best.

Hi meddoctor,

Can I ask what your stats for applying to SABA and Ross were? Also, how long b/f u were offered interviews at each school, and did u have to call them to find out if you had an interview with each?

Your reply is much appreciated!

What do you guys think of the facilities and resources at SABA?

... I mean ... look at the library, it's like a primary school library.

Unless you are a canadian, have a lot of money saved up, have rich parents or have a strong-strong co-signer (?even that dosent work sometimes), it would be hard to keep up with the unstable loan situation plus unavailable federal aid at saba. I would prefer med school experience at saba over ross only with the peace of mind that I wouldnt need to worry for my next semesters tuition.

Everyone keeps talking about Ross class size...have u even seen the classroom? u are not left behind...cuz everyone has equal opportunity to learn in the classroom, plus there is media site which a lot of students use instead of going to class and 3rdly u get the opportunity to prove urself in first semester and if u cant cut it u drop out thats why the class size is a regular number by 2nd semester....so geez all the complaining is not necessary, every school has its problems so just decide whats good for u and do what u gotta do instead of making everyone in these forums depressed about the fact that they chose whichever school they chose....

We're all tryna be doctors, so support each other...we're all gonna be doctors from the caribbean anyway....so what about a little U.N.I.T.Y huh??
