Is it possible to 'bounce back' in semester 1 after failing the first mini?

yes but you need to address the problem. You need to be proactive and seek help with whatever studying issues and weaknesses you have, and whatever other issues there may be.

My issue was just studying. I have been away from the sciences for about two years now, and getting back into the groove of things was really hard. I had a good GPA in undergrad/grad school and a decent mcat score... it was just that everytime i'd study for biochem, i felt stupid and my mind would feel like it's getting 'brain raped' everytime i went through bauxbum's packets. I think my problem for mini 1 was the memorize everthing mindset, whereas, it should've been repetition-repetition-repetition (basically what the elder semester students had advised me on, and i should have listened).
Thanks for the quick response stephew,

Peer tutoring is a valuble tool as well as study groups! Both help with the repetition, repetition, repetition.

You haven't even taken it yet, how do you already know you failed it?
Need to keep positive thinking here, it's the only thing that keeps me going. ;)
Do you best and get those negative thoughts out of your head, just find ways to improve but never assume you are going to fail an exam before taking it, you are only hurting yourself.
And yes, you can definitely improve, many of us, including myself, can attest to that. Never get behind and keep up with the material.

Yes you can bounce back. Those minis are a numbers game. What I mean by that is that you should focus on the percentage of each subject on an exam. For example, on mini 3 physiology is worth ~40% of your total physio grade. Thus you should concentrate on this subject more as oppose to biochem which in that exam is only like ~10%. So again, if you did bad on a subject check it's value and take it from there. My friend failed the first mini and came back at the end and passed the semester.
Also, if you are worried about Baxbaum, don't worry too much. I can promise you that one of his questions will be thrown out...it always is. You can memorize his entire packet, and still miss his ques on the mini. His questions tend to ask irrelevant material, like what color socks he had on the other day.

I remember first mini in semester 1, and most students failed at least one subject, and this includes future a/b students later in the semester. Don't sweat it, see what class is hurting more, and like you said before, it's all about repetition.
