this school is now telling me to pay for clinical semesters, maybe even all the money if i want to write USMLE step 1. They keep the clinical information for them selves and when there is a question raised about where we have clinicals no one seems to respond.
They believe just because they have clinical rotation with family residency then we can do all clinicals in those places, which this is wrong by all the things i read and info gathered from reliable sources such as licensing boards.
Please, new students ASK ABOUT THIS ISSUE BEFORE YOU COME, i am leaving, i dont care if i have to do basic sciences again from semester 1, this school does not have clinicals, cant get students to even do US clinicals, especailly those who are nigerians.
i feel better now, i wish i had a shrink

This nothing new to fmg. In St. James students have to pay the clinical fee every four months without getting any clinical training. In addition they have to pay hospital surcharge and medical insurance. They told me unless you pay these amount you will be removed from school studentship and will not forward application to ECFMG. I heard few student from this school had completed their clinical and going through interview for residency. So think twice before you take your next step.

You are right Hueller. There are students doing clinicals in Indiana, Georgia, etc.
But such moments in life are crucial to show us what mental status one has as a prospective medical doctor. What kind of a doctor threatens people or anyone for whatever reason---that defeats the purpose of being a doctor. One might want to re-examine the idea of becoming a doctor.

Yikes, many of my friends at Spartan had to pay for their clinical semester before getting their ECFMG stuff sent off for Step One.
It is true MANY states will require your core electives to be done at an institution certified in the SAME specialty or sub-specialty (Family Practice at Family Practice; or Geriatrics at Geriatrics NOT at an Internal Medicine-ACGME Hospital even though geriatrics is a sub-specialty of internal medicine)
I have posted a link with a form from the Texas Medical Board that fully describes this, directly from their own website.

I agree with you that it is absolutely wrong for All Saints to request you to pay for clinical semesters, if you want to write USMLE step 1. Obviously they want to ensure that you stay at their school to finish your training. This is BLACKMAIL. If you have paid to do your Basic Sciences, you ought to be allowed write USMLE step 1.
It is also fundamentally wrong for a school to clinical information from its students and not to answer questions thereon.
You ought to be a thread on the main page called SCHOOL GRIEVANCES where students can air views such as this to alert prospective students of the evils that are done to students such as you are experiencing. Your school is not the only one which has no facility for students from the British Commonwealth to do clinicals. I do not see why anyone should be forced to do clinicals in the USA if they do not want to.
The fact that St. James students have to pay the clinical fee every four months without getting any clinical training is also wrong. Why should anyone pay for something that they are not receiving just because they want to become a doctor. This is BLACKMAIL TOO and FRAUD. It is evil!
The fact that students at Spartan also have to pay for their clinical semester before getting their ECFMG stuff sent off for Step One is also WRONG!.
One sage wrote “I heard few student from this school had completed their clinical and going through interview for residency. So think twice before you take your next step.” You would think that Poundays RU was facing being thrown into the lake of fire at the great white throne judgement!
This is nonsense. This is why the standards of these schools are so poor. Anything goes. The admin hires poor tutors, operate from poor facilities, and the students laud and say at least we will get the chance to do the USMLE exam. The admin laughs all the way to the bank with your money.
NO medical student should have to go through all these hoops and loops.
I don’t understand the logic of the other sage who opines “What kind of a doctor threatens people or anyone for whatever reason---that defeats the purpose of being a doctor. One might want to re-examine the idea of becoming a doctor.”
There is nothing that special about being a doctor. A doctor is a human like other men. A doctor is a sinner like other men. A doctor today has less status and esteem than an entertainer or a professional sportsman. A baseball hitter misses the ball most of the time and is better paid than a neurosurgeon.
MEDICAL SCHOOLS OUGHT TO HAVE HIGHER STANDARDS AND TREAT THEIR STUDENTS BETTER!

That post above was really interesting. You should become a priest with all that sinners and this is wrong and blackmail speech.
Anyways, Caribbean med schools have their reputation for a reason. There are administration issues, the proffs might not be the most stable, the campus might not be Harvard like extravagant but you have to realize that students have chosen this route for the most part because they couldn't get into American or Canadian Medical schools. In saying that they should be prepared to make some sacrifices to accomplish their goal of becoming a physician. If you honestly want to become a physician, all you have to do is study extremely hard. You might not be able to study in a room filled with hundreds of plasma screens, with futurisitic looking technology etc, but the material you're going to be studying is the same regardless of where you study it. And believe it or not your retention of the material is not going to be any better if you go to All Saints vs AUC or MUA or any other caribbean med school. So stop bickering about issues which are minor in the overall scheme of things and focus on your real goal which hopefully is to become a doctor.

I have been to medical school, practised medicine for over 25 years, and have taught medical students in these offshore schools in the islands, so I know all about it. I have seen the whole gamut.
Because a person did not get into a US school or a Canadian school does not mean that one should put up with the nonsense that goes on as described by the poster who started this thread.
If you were in the US you would complain about everthing that was wrong at Walmart or wherever. Why is it that you guys let these schools get away with murder, just because they pretend to give you a chance at being a doctor?

It is good to hear from you again. And I am glad you read my post.
However, the post is not intended to make you understand or agree with the reasoning behind it. Nope! I respect your opinion, nonetheless and your right to disagree. And you have done it in such honorable way.... So much that you have express the spirit of medical professional as opposed to some social menace, like Al Capone and others. This is what makes you special despite that you are both humans.
Once again, it is good to hear from you.
