So im new to the forum and have spent the last 2 hours searching for answers but have come to the conclusion that im now more confused than I was 2 hours ago. I was wondering if anybody out there could help clear this up for me…

I have read that if I wish to practice in Texas, im going to have a difficult time trying to accomplish this due to restrictions. I was wondering are there any other states in the US that are difficult/impossible to attain a license in? if so which ones are they?

when they say that Saba has been ‘accredited by California…does that mean once you graduate from Saba and pass the Step 1,2,3 and complete your residency, that I wont have to jump through any loop holes to begin practicing in California

Lastly, if one is able to do his residency in a certain state, does that mean that after he is done with his residency program that he can begin practicing medicine within that state?

Sorry in advance if these are dumb questions. Its just that I have searched this forum for a while now and am really lost. Any input would be highly appreciated.

PS. everyone on this board is amazing :D

good question. I have been wondering the same thing myself. Aftering speaking with some alumni and reading posts, I have come up with the conclusion that for california we can practise there after doing residency. Obviously everyone is analyzed on a case by case basis, but we dont have to jump through loops to practise there. As for Texas I have no idea. But this is just my conlusion and I am not sure if this is correct, so someone please correct me if Im wrong. Any input would be appreciated...

I am little confused myself.

Does anyone know a good conclusion to Saba University being approved in California? I know that Saba University is approved by California, but does anyone know if one has to jump through alot of loops to finally get back to practising and working in California? I know they have recently got CA approval (1/02) so they dont have any graduates from residency programs that work in California, but if anyone knows a definit answer to this please post it here, i know there are alot of people confused about this issue, and for some it is important to be able to go back to CA and work. Thanks!

I have no personal insights, but here's a brief thread on the topic. There may be others if you do a search.

If you are confused to what states you can practice it, check out the state medical board website for the particular state you are interested in. They are the final word.

In regards to TX, Saba is not on the equivalency list posted here (http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/professionals/physicians/applicants/physicianapplicants.php) under Licensure Process, Substantial Equivalence. Therefore, it is not impossible to practice in TX, it will just be more difficult as stated on the TX medical board web site:
"You are advised to review the list of schools whose graduates do not have to prove substantial equivalence of their education. If your school is not on this list you will be required to submit several additional items for review."

In regards to CA - CA has a pretty rigorous approval process of the schools that they put on their "recognized list" here (http://www.medbd.ca.gov/applicant/schools_recognized.html). Therefore, some states use the CA list since CA did all the work for them and they don't have to review these off-shore schools themselves. Since Saba is on this list, then a Saba grad would not have to prove equivalency in CA or any state that uses the CA list for their "approved schools."
