I am really thinking about Elmhurst b/c of its size, location (I live in Manhatty) and facilities. Hearing rumors though that we need to divide rotations between Elmhurst Hosp and Queens Hosp -- is this true? Any advice on Elmhurst in general? Specifically, is it better or worse to be "doing your own thing" and be away from the majority of SGU-ers in your term?
Thanks

not a rumor--as far as i know the rotations are divided between the 2 hospitals, but they aren't that far apart.
define "doing you own thing"? i only did an elective there(which i thought was great and if it was closer to NJ i would have done more), and didn't feel that i was left to my own devices- my preceptors liked to teach and i saw my fair share of pts. Everyone i know who did cores there, for the most part like them ( they told me peds was a little lacking)...
and in any of the hospitals you will be way from the majority of the sguers...even the largest of clinical centers take, maybe 40 from each term for cores, so at most you have 80 or so students (and only half will be from your term). you stay in contact with friends at other hospitals, because, well, they are your friends, and you may even make some new ones at your assigned hospital!

Thanks. I guess what I meant was that most people seem to go to the B-lyn hospitals, lots fewer go to Queens plus it is a bigger place, so you probably will be in less of an SGU community, but I guess as you say you're split up from everyone wherever you end up.
If you know anyone who did cores at Elmhurst who might be willing to share their experience, can you send me their info in a private message? Thanks so much.
Though the total students who go to Queens is less than Brooklyn, its because SGU has more hospitals in Brooklyn. The number of students at Elmhurst is comparable to an individual clinical center, so no danger of being isolated. True, you don't run into other classmates who're at a different hospital even if in the same borough, but you have plenty of company at your own center.
P.S. Regarding hospital size...I'd take into consideration if the clinical center offers all cores and how much bouncing around is necessary during cores. That is, one can't say teaching at a 576 bed facility (Elmhurst) would be better than that at a 516 bed facility (LICH), just coz it's bigger.
One offers all cores in the same location, and this may or may not be a major consideration, depending on individual priorities.
