i wanted to ask, concerning the oral exams, from what i understand you chose 5 questions (or is it topics??) out of a crazy list of around 200 to be asked during the exam, yes?
Now, if you answer one of these 5 questions wrong, do you fail the entire exam?, is it all or nothing?
and for those of you who have done this, please share your experiences, ive heard from one student that he felt they were purposely looking for questions that he wouldnt know. Now ive been through the university system, and ive met my fair share of ******* teachers. Those who like to test the limits of the material, i doubt anyone here hasnt, but is it as innocent as a prof on a powertrip?
anyways, any elaborations or comments would help
thanks in advance
peace.
P.S. avoid_hungary, did you get that box of cookies i sent you?

It is a completely fair system. No you do not fail if you do not know a title, but if you don't know say two in a row, then you may be asked to repeat the examination, aka "B" chance, and it goes up to the "C" chance. So you get PLENTY of chances to prove yourself.
Are they purposely asking questions in which you do not know the answers, no of course not. However occasionally they try and drill you to make sure that you answer the correct question, and you are confident in your answer. They may ask you "what?" "what?" "WHAT?" and then answer, "yes, you are correct."
It can be nerve wracking at times, but its worth it for the most part.
Of COURSE there are nicer examiners than others, it just happens. Usually Dept. Heads are the most detailed.

well...
see it obviously is subjective, being an oral exam, as in everyone has their own opinion. from my experiences, the teachers are never there to fail you purposely. They may not like to give the best grade(5) , i.e they will ask you a lot of questions, before they can say .. that yes you deserve a 5. But all in all.... if u want to pass... its fair easy.. provided you know ur basics...! But... the more higher the grade u want.. the more better you shud hav grasp over he subject...! whch completely makes sense...!
So good luck !!!!

i agree, when i had my biochem oral the same happened to me. i politely asked the prof. to ask me more questions for a higher grade. he agreed to ask me one more question. luckily i knew the answer.:)
