Hi. My name is Kory Mace. I was accepted for Sep 08 also...I have a question for all of you starting in sep. How is everyone getting finanical aid. Who are you all using banks or loan programs? I could really use some help. I was told over the phone interview that as of right now we were "on our own" and that MUA was working on new programs.??? Could you all help me with some ideas for applying for loans?

Those from NJ/Vermont - how are you guys planning on getting to Nevis? What travel options have you looked into?

I am from VT and was looking into flying out of NY.

I just booked mine out of Newark ... direct to Nevis with a stop in SanJuan. It's a little pricier than the other options, but at least I have the peace of mind of using only one carier and arriving directly at Nevis, instead of waiting around for the ferry.

The baggage restrictions are ridiculous. What shipping services are you all using?

hey guys, if you don't mind me asking, what are your GPAs? I am planning on applying for Pre Med II in Jan 09 or May 09. I heard they take 2.7 and above, is this correct?

there is no gpa requ. You have to apply and find out basically. I mean they also look at the course you ve taken, extracur, work experience, statment, INTERVIEW, etc.. oh and 60 credits that can not include premed courses.

Pre-med Sept. 08 here. I called them yesterday and they said to try back at the "end of June", when they will probably have their loan recommendations. We have to pay in full by July 15 though. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen, "credit crunch" or not. If by June 20 they don't get anything you guys should just get your own loans. The ones they're going to recommend are sure to be 7-10% interest anyway, which you can easily get on your own.

Thanks. It's absolutely true too. :p I will definitely try to destroy the pre-med curve to transfer, even though they're basically equal quality schools. Anyone seen the single room dorms, btw? They're very private, but are the size of porta-potties.

For months I have been trying to get loans for this school and NO ONE will give me a private loan because no reputable company has even heard of this school, much less have some sort of connection with them.
Every month I call MUA and every month they keep telling me to wait till the next month to get any information about loans. The last time I called I was told that they expect students to be able to pay for themselves for the first semester.
Sure, the massive loan problems people reflect on the poor economy, but they also reflect on this school as well. No new information is ever given about this. The students have no clue what the hell is going on. And I'm going to have to somehow scrape up $8-10,000 by the end of July to go to this school. If they were so confident that a new loan would be available for MUA students in "July", then they would give us a month or so extension to pay our tuition. Nothing is happening in July, and probably not till the end of this summer. Saba is hardly better, but I will definitely transfer there due to this debacle.

Thanks - Nope. If I'm not mistaken, Saba is just as hard to get private loans for as MUA. But at least it has a big name and is considered in the "Big 4."
There are only 3 Caribbean schools that you can get Federal loans for - AUC, Ross, and St. George's. So just because of that fact alone it's much easier to get private loans as well. For the rest of us, we have to grin and bear it. The right thing to do would be to boycott all of these schools, MUA included, for not helping the students in any way and for keeping us in the dark about the loan situation. If only accreditation weren't necessary I'd open up my own medical school.

most dont have a bachelors but some do, some states in the US requre 60-90 college credits , a bachelors is not a requirement

Currently: Nervousness level is 15.9 on a scale of 1-10.
If Pre-meds are confirmed to be given loans (should find out next week), nervousness will be near 0.
If not, nervousness will be 192 on a scale of 1-10, rage will be a 824, and depression will be 1,723.

Looking forward to it though!!!! Mount Nevis must be hiked and the ocean must be swam in.

yeah the dorms won't open until 28th according to Charlene Huggins. Most ppl arriving early on the Island will be making their own accommodation arrangements at a hotel or something.

Anyways i'm in or should i say will be in Med-1, coming there on the 28th. hope to see you guys there.

im most likely going to arrive on the 26th with my pop or mom (cause im going to bring as many suitcases as i can..lol)...and stay in a hotel or something for a night or 2 just to get use to the surroundings and all that good stuff..lol
