Will there be any problems for my brother if he wants to practice in California and he doesn't get his bachelor's degree. He's planning on going to a cali-approved carib school after 2 years of undergrad.

He needs to complete at least 3 years of undergrad work, and complete all the pre-med reqs.

Hi, I was worried about the so called "Medical Practice Act" in California , which states that you need to have a certain amount of preprofessional units before obtaining a Physician's license. I contacted Pat Park with the State Medical Board in Sacramento, CA in 2003 regarding this. She is in charge of what Foreign Medical Schools are accredited in Caifornia as well as the requisites for IMG's. She told me that the specific requirement to have a certain amount of "Premedical Units" was no longer in effect. I am trying to get into medical school a little early without having a bachelor's degree. I looked over the application for obtaining licensure in California. Somewhere in the first few pages, I noticed that the application still asks for a premedical history as well as transcripts, but I guess they have not removed that section (Not sure why it still asks for it). There are grauates from parts of Europe, especially the UK that do not have a premedical degree and are licensed in California. The system of medical edcuation in many parts of the World are different from the US in that you attend medical school after secondary schooling (high school), therefore many IMG's may not have an undergraduate degree. Now for other States, I am not sure on their specific "Premedical" requirements if there are any. I am currently trying to make some phone calls to inquire about other State's preprofessional requirements. I think it would be best to call the California Medical Board and ask Pat Park if there has been any change from last year. Currently to my understanding, no undergraduate degree and no amount of "premedical" units are required for California licensure. Best of Luck :D
