do most people bring their laptops to class to take notes. is so, are there outlets to plug them in (in the classroom)

Yes, people bring their laptops to class. There are plenty of outlets in which to plug them in.

are there many mac's on the island? mac is all I know and use and would hate to have to switch to the dark side.

Do I need a super good surge protector or just a standard one? How bad are power surges, if any, on the island?

There are a few macs on the island. Just make sure you have power point installed. Some files don't convert the same (tables, charts in ppt), but so far, no one with a mac has complained of any serious issues.

Just a regular surge protector should be fine. We haven't had any problems with power surges since I've been here, but the electricity does go out every once in a while. Don't worry, the school has a back up generator, so you can still go to class! :D
