Just wondering if anyone was considering going here in Fall 2008 and wondering what your thoughts are?

Chobb,

I am considering Fall 2008- it seems like the administration are strong, I'm thinking that 4 semesters is a short amount of time to do what other schools do in 5-6... what are your thoughts?

I am considering the school as well. I am nervous about it being a new school and all, but it seems that they have their act together. I hope someone from the May class will post their experiences and only then I think I would make my decision to go there. Also, I want to find out more about the clinical situation. We will see.

I am considering. Just sent in my application the other day. Staff is extremely informative and helpful. Much more than any other of the schools that I was considering. I am of course sketchy since they don't have a track record, but the staff is very good in making me feel comfortable. I would be very suprised if the school doesn't become one of the more competative in the future.

It seems like they haven't signed any clinical sites and thats the scariest thing i could forsee in a new school

I was accepted into UMHS for Fall 2008. I need to decide between AUA and UMHS... any thoughts?

Everyone is under different circumstances, however, I would def say that your at a disadvantage from other applicants who are usually applying with a 3.0 gpa and above. Try to strengthen your application by getting a good score on the mcat and getting involved in some volunteer work. See if your current university offers any research to undergrad students. If it does, look for something that interests you and get involved. Most importantly though try to get A's on current classes and score well on the mcat. Good luck.

i'm considering applying for may, for september, or not applying at all. i've gone back and forth on this a few times. i know the credited answer is to go ahead and apply and then decide later.

however, in reality, once i apply that adds in other psychological biases. its harder to say no (even if there are good reasons to do so) if youve been accepted and you start to overemphasize the positive aspects.

the lack of clinical sites bothers me the most. so far i havent heard any sites announced. does anyone have any idea when this will happen? im not particularly picky about where the sites are, just i want to see that there will be adequate sites. its depressing that we're about to hit march and i'm still on the fence about this

i dont think you should be depressed.... i'm accepted to AUA and am still hesitating because of this school. i'm waiting as you are for imed listing and clinical sites. the facilities on this school are just so tempting i think anyone who isnt going to big 4 would do like us...... hesitate. personnally i think i will take a couple more undergrad classes for a year and follow the school. after that period of time i'll make a decision.

dont forget getting into med school is a marathon not a sprint

I am seriosuly considering this school for the fall. It seems very promising. Just waiting till the clinical sites are posted and the 5th semester location. Apart from that, the campus is very high tech, they seem to have decent faculty and financial aid options through CitiBank.

If one were to apply and be accepted for start date in 2009, what is the likelihood that they could postpone their admission until 2010?

Would love to apply early but really not ready to make a 15 month relo plus 5th semester and 2 year unknown location commitment until 2010.

I'm flexible with the unknowns. I can adapt to anything for a short time, Just need to tie up so loose fianncial ends, ride out the real estate slump and get psyched for the carribean commitment.

If you apply now, you will be accepted for May 2008 or deferred till September 2008. We generally do not accept students and defer them more than one semester. If you do not want to come until 2009 or 2010, it would be best to postpone the application until you are ready. Of course by then, the real estate slump may be worse and tuition may be higher. Apply now and defer until September!

Hmm good point regarding the Real Estate, but I'm an optomist. It's leap year and an election year ya know!?!?:D

Speaking of tuition... how much will the 5th semester and years 3 and 4 cost? Will it be the rate of wherever the clinicals are held or will UMHS offer one price point for the students to directly pay to UMHS?

Thanks

Tuition for all semesters is set by UMHS. There is one tuition for all students in any specific semester.
