who cares about california.
do you residency anywhere, and THEN, apply for a license in california and practice there.
ca residencies are harder to get no matter what. if you limit yourself to ca, youre not gonna match anywehre

got milk is correct, you can probably get IM somewhere. cali is harder and it may be difficult so along with applying to cali programs, apply to many other places as well.

every year it seems IM is getting more competitive. just ask anybody in this year's match for IM.
there are more and more DO's applying, FMG schools popping up like mushrooms and UK residents bombarding ERAS with applications. all in all this means that program directos get to chose the cream of the crop.
my advice, blanket out applications, send them out early, and don't be afraid to apply to more than 100 programs.

you need to do as well as possible on step 2 (220s and up). Also, look to get awesome letters of recommendation if you want to stand a chance at matching in california. The ball is on your court. If not, you can kiss california goodbye...it's that simple.
remember also that you have to apply for the California PTAL letter that makes you eligible to do residency in the state. you must have all your cores done and allow at least 90 days for the PTAL to come through. if you don't have it in time for applying (like sept) UC schools won't even bother looking at your application. there ARE some programs that don't require you to have the letter at the time of applying, but then that only limits you to even more programs. that's why some people either plan on taking a year off or they just apply to programs close to CA.
only a fool would be willing to go to a thrid world country for basic sciences and then refuse to do residency anywhere but a certain location. the most important part of your education is residency. apply all over. if the best program you get an offer from is in south dakota, then you are an idiot if you dont go to SD. go where you can get a great education, not where you are comfie.
of note, you may be surprised, you may like where you work and stay. if you had told me 10 years ago i was going to end up in south carolina, i would have laughed at you and said "No Way!!!". I now have a great job that pays in the top 3% of my specialty nationwide, in an area where the cost of living is dirt cheap. no regrets.

I got 3 yr membership with 24 hr fitness and I would like to use most of it; that's why I would like to stay in california.

:p:p:p
not match in Ca, and lose $60000 salary, keep the $3000 membership
or
match somewhere else, earn $60000 and get a new gym membership.
hmm...... tough choice.

That guy is hilarious. I think that gym memberships have a clause in them that if you move within a certain distance then you don't have to pay. At least at Bally's.

you are right I can stop the membership and get 100 dollars back.... but i paid 860 - still i loose lot of money. plus after three years membership is only 25 dollars a year. i am willing to take a pay cut for that deal.
I think I speak for everyone when I recommend you quit medical school and go into stand up.

Rather than make any inflammatory personal statements, I'll just say that's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. Hopefully it's a joke.
If it's not, you do realize they have 24 hour fitnesses everywhere. I'd be surprised if you weren't able to find a location wherever you are. I'd also be surprised if there wasn't a way to transfer your membership to that location.

Finish residency outside of cali, all the while persisting off of self prescribed Fen-Phen (get it somehow) and oxandrolone or stanozolol.... Who needs a gym, and you'll look like Ahhhnold... :-P

as a resident...I would think you'd want to go to sleep when not in work...not go to the gym. Nothing wrong with being fat and happy!!!
you could always do like one of my friends. he works part time here in SC, and full time as a hospitalist in Las Vegas the rest of teh month. when you do 5 shifts in a row, you easily recoup the $800 airfare. jsut work part time in cali, do a couple 12 hour shifts, hit the gym, then come back to your other job.
by the way, non hospitalist jobs usually dont have that much time off to pull that off.
