How many weeks can we do in NY. I thought we could do all of it there but according the pdf on the schools website, it says only 12 weeks. Is that an error because someone failed to remove that or the truth

you can do your 3rd and 4th year in NY... but you might have to jump around from hospital to hospital

Ummm I just did a quick search. I think I'm wrong about the 12 week thing. Is there a list or something that AUC is on that makes it ok for us to do more than 12 wks in NY? Some ny will chime in I'm sure.

you can do all of your 3rd and 4th year at NY, but you can only do 12 wks outside of AUC affiliated sites

actually, i was under the impression that sgu was the school that had this rule and auc let you do them anywhere.

NY Law you can do as many weeks as you want at an affiliated site. The minute you step foot in another hospital you are limited to 12 weeks at non-affiliated hospitals and this does not include weeks at affiliated hospitals

Swimguy has it exactly right. So if you want to do all of your elective at Wychoff (funny) then you are more than welcome to do that or at any of the AUC affiliated hospitals. Say you want to do neurosurgery at Mt Sinai, that will start cutting into your 12 weeks.

does this pertain only to away rotations within new york or away rotations in any state? so if somebody did over 12 weeks in a hospital in alaska, they are ineligible for new york licensure?

the reason i ask is because the form i had to sign when i interviewed at a new york program did not word it that way.

thank GOD florida made that new law about needing an affiliation agreement to do any elective within the state. i did 16 weeks of electives in florida and had to go through the headache of setting up an official affiliation with auc for the two hospitals. if florida didnt make that law, i may have indirectly made myself ineligible for new york licensure without those affiliations. :D:cool:

but im still not sure that this is the case with new york state. do you have a link or something to back up your position because the new york state website and the form i signed when i interviewed didnt mention what you are saying.

its IF you want to do residency and/or practice in NY, then you are limited to 12 weeks of non affliated time in NY hospitals - others states is ok by NY (but it IS the reason that sgu has the 12 week rule).
