It's been around 6 months since we've had a new clinical site, but today they added:
Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, MD
ACGME accredited for IM, FM and OB/Gyn
Since Harbor is accredited for IM and ********** already, I guess this means students can get Family Medicine done in Baltimore now.
Update: Ob/Gyn at Harbor hospital is for St. Matthews students only.

The addition of new clinical sites has been slow lately. AUA needs to get more sites to prevent back-ups. According to the website there were 144 people that were promoted from basic sciences ending December to 5th semester.

NY is saturated, there are no spots to gain unless you start a bidding war for clinical sites. Keep the sites that you have and it is better to make efforts towards getting another city beside NYC where you can get a majority of cores done Green. This makes Baltimore now 4 of 6 cores, NYC 6 of 6, Chicago 3 of 6, and the Pontiac/Grand Blanc area 4 of 6. Trying to expand in Chicago is probably more feasible than NYC. Acquiring peds sites should be a top priority too, as that is the bottle neck for most schools.

Anyone know what's happening with Atlanta? I know that a whole bunch of my classmates are there, but no one posts from there.

Last word to me was that they will no longer be sending anyone to Atlanta...Because it was not up to AUA's standards. Whatever that means. I was dying to move to Atlanta. I personally noticed that the bottleneck is occuring because of the huge number of transfers that are already set to take the step at the end of 5th semester. I know we had a bunch in Miami. Not to mention the fact that just about everyone passes 4th semester in Antigua--unless you are below 40% you probably will pass.
Now the advisors are telling me that I may have to wait till April or May if I want to go to New York. I am engaged and my fiancee and I need a more permanant location so she can work but they don't seem to be very accomodating.

What's the wait time for other clinical sites? Is it only NY that has a waitlist to start?

I have no idea...yesterday they said I would be off to Derby Conn. Then today they told me it was full. I can not even keep track of what they are doing up there.

If Derby Conn is full did they schedule you in somewhere else?

Is yours an isolated incident or are others experiencing delays due to shortages? How deep does this problem go?
has anyone ever been assigned a rotation that isn't greenbook?

Plenty of students have. I'd say that the number one reason that students rotate at non-Green sites is because they simply don't know the difference or the consequences of doing so. Some are absolutely sure that they plan to practice in a state with a lenient medical board, and therefore don't care. A small minority have families and can't deal with a nomadic lifestyle.
If you don't know what a Greenbook rotation is, I recommend doing some research. If you do, educate a friend!

You would think that the school has a responsibility to inform it's students about the importance/significance of green rotations. It could even be argued that there was a breach of contract if the school is advertising approval in certain states and at the same time offering students non-green sites without informing students of the significance of accepting such a rotation.

Sree - OBGYN at harbor is only for st. matthews.
When I tried to contact my advisor (STILL HAVE NOT TALKED TO HER ON THE PHONE) the other advisor TL called me trying to get me into IM at some random site in NY she needed to "fill up". I asked her if she was aware that I was currently at Harbor Hospital doing IM and she had no clue. Then I asked her if the rotation she was trying to put me into was greenbook since I've only requested greenbook rotations AND SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T KNOW.
Point of the story is I tried to get into franklin and she told me I had to wait till juneish. How can the site be full after it just went up a couple days ago.
AUA NEEDS MORE COMPETENT STAFF or MORE staff members who know what greenbook rotations are, who call you back when you leave them 20+ messages, who answer their messages, and who KNOW WHAT ROTATION YOU'RE IN AND DON'T JUST TRY TO "FILL UP" their sites.
I'm highly annoyed with AUA and would tell current prospective students to stay away if they're trying to transfer in. I'm not happy with my school, and I'm one of those rare few students that started school with them in med1.

Hey NicSTX how did you get placed in a rotation without ever talking to your advisor on the phone? She wont even call you back? Thats terrible. I'm getting nervous just thinking about that and i'm taking my step this sem.

My personal experience is I get email responses from my advisor(TL) the same day or within a day, phone messages take longer to get answered.

The site has been up since late December and they have been filling it since then.

Yeah, TL responds really fast to e-mail (within 3-4 hours usually), and she's generally very helpful. The other one, SL, is pretty good with e-mail too, though I don't have much contact with her. It's probably a busy period.
In terms of clinical coordinators not knowing which sites are Greenbook, that's something we should bring up with the Clinical Dean. It's not really their fault - most of these guys are 9-5 office employees with no medical experience. They have no ability to understand the difference between ACGME-accredited or unaccredited rotations, and they certainly don't understand the implications or consequences.
Apparently the new clinical Dean is connected with Harbor Hospital (http://www.harborhospital.org/body.cfm?ID=555555&?CFID=5849406&CFTOKEN=83281800&UserAction=DoctorDetails&doctorid=258&ziplongitude=0&ZipLatitude=0). I'm going to write him a detailed letter this week, sometime.
(This other idea that has been floating around in my head over the last couple days was selling Greenbook awareness wristbands (http://www.wristbands-with-a-message.com/?gclid=CI_G5M3MqpECFShsGgodUAIEfw) and using the proceeds to buy a copy of the actual Greenbook for the NY office.)

Hehe was kidding bout the wristbands. But amazon.com has a Greenbook for 13 bucks (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/002-4489231-4872058?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Graduate+Medical+Education+Directory&x=0&y=0).
I'll probably just buy it, get some bookmarks and bookmark all the greenbook sites that we have, and maybe highlight the names of the hospitals and mail it to the ny office.
sounds like a fun rainy day project

I know what you mean. It makes it that much harder to focus on such a priority when you are getting worried/nervous/anxious about the state of the clinicals situation, which sounds to be not good.

When you write your letter it might be nice to suggest a better clinical evaluation form. The current form is very non-specific and needs more areas to grade us on. Also adding a standard comments secton would be helpful. I currently add a sheet for comments on my own.

She e mailed me back after I went over her heard and called the clinical dean. Then she stopped answering my e mails and my phone calls when she got me titers, certificates etc.

I've really lost confidence in the school's ability to do anything right beyond take money.

Hi there.
I know I'm just a lowly Admissions person. But if you need another avenue of trying to contact someone here in the NY office I am available to see what I can do to grease the wheels, rattle the cages, rustle the weeds...etc. which might be necessary to get something done.
Just FYI.

To be fair... His coming here is relatively safe. The school's problems aren't really related to accepting too many students. Some would argue that they just don't have the infrastructure and organization to support it's current level of growth.
Seeing someone able to answer questions about greenbook rotations, financial aid, safety issues on the island, etc... would be a interesting.:)
