So I was reading on the Saba website that internet services are available for about $30 a month as well as an additional 1-10 cents per minute you spend connected to the web….is this true? They do not offer any unlimited internet packages on Saba (if you live off campus)?
Thank in advance guys!
Ps. How much do you usually find yourself paying per month for internet?

I'm not sure the dial-up option is still available, though it might be.
There are three DSL speeds offered currently: 64k, 128k, and 256k. It's $55 for 64k, $80 for 128k, and $120 for 256k. With all of these plans you need at least a local landline so you need to add the cost of that on top of that of the internet plan. It's $14.45 for local and $27.75 for international. Then there are the various fees and taxes.
The only plan I've had any experience with is the 256k one and it's $139.67 per month when all is said and done. That's with the local landline since we use Vonage and we'd have no use for the international one.
Check out the phone company's website at SATEL - Saba Telephone Company (http://www.unspoiledqueen.com) for more info.

Have students tried using a wireless router to share the internet and as well share the expense? If so, perhaps a worthy item to bring is a wireless router?

You most definitely should bring a wireless router... whether you're sharing with someone or not.
In the dorms, at least in Hillside - each quad tends to share one internet connection.
Matthews seems to shy away from it a little bit - but it's still possible. I have hard of people splitting it by 3 rooms with the room in the middle housing the router. BUT, 6 people sharing 1 connecton = DEATH.
My roommate and I now current share 156 ($100). It can be pretty slow at time, but really there's not much difference between the 156 and the 256 in my opinion. The whole island shares bandwidth :P, so no matter where you go, you're gonna have slow "high speed" internet :P

That was pretty typical and is not death. And yes, any router will work.

Okay so I asked question similar to this in another thread and didn't get a response so I'll retry here. How does vonage work exactly? I looked at their website but couldn't really find the information I was looking for. Also, in addition to the fees you talked about for the internet do you still have to pay by the minute when you're online? I also saw in the information the school sent us recently of the large fees to install internet and phone, do you have to pay these fees again when you move out second semester into a new place. Any information would be appreciated thanks.

Until a single person starts using Limewire/Bittorent/eDonkey/Whatever. Then everyone else is totally screwed.
Let the beat down commence. It's the only way they'll learn.

There is no dial-up "pay by the minute" service on Saba anymore.
Just dial-up DSL speeds that will make you bleed from your eyes when your 'buddy' starts downloading files.
The VoIP services such as Skype and Vonage work fine over the 128k connections. Not so well over the 64k connections if anything else is happening at all.
