Can any of you older (I'm 37) students with families/kids comment on your families' experience on Saba? My wife is having some doubts as to what she and the boys (age 2 & 4) will do on the island for 20 months...I plan on applying for the September 2008 or January 2009 class
Thanks

I was a wife of a med student on the island, but we don't have kids. I do know there is a lot of support for all the wives and kids of students. You probably know by now about SOS (Spouses of Students). They are a group made up of spouses of students and they are always getting together for cooking classes, pot-lucks, play-dates, welcome and farewell dinners, etc. Many of the students join their families for some of these events when they have time away from the books. There's definitely an adaptation period, but she'll learn the ropes from the other wives. She can email me if she has any questions, I'd be happy to answer anything, give any tips or advice about living on the island, or refer her to someone else who had kids on the island when I was there.

Ok, I always thought it was Spouses of Students...it's Significant Others of Saba. The significant others of the faculty are also involved with this organization. See the SOS info below:

Hello, FBIDoc
Interesting enough we fall into the same profile ,Today is my 37th Bday. If accepted I will be traveling with my wife who is a Dr(OTD) and two boys (3&5). I would assume you have a background in law enforcement by your user name. (Ditto)first career
I am investigating the housing available on the island and the schools for the boys. We should have no problems adapting to the island life as I have spent most of the last 10 years all over the Caribbean. Its my job
I am a technical diving instructor/commercial diver. the Hyperbaric Med option is what makes SABA Stand out for me.
Let me know what you have already found out..
