I'm sure this has been asked in the past, but perhaps some updated or new thoughts on this would be helpful.

What are the pros and cons of attending a Big 4 Carib school vs. a US DO school? On the surface, I've come up with:

DO:
--Pro: US school, no FMG issues
--Con: DO, not MD

Big 4:
--Pro: MD, not DO
--Con: FMG issues; having to move to an island

A US D.O school is a wise choice! The AOA has some outstanding residencies and you get to compete for MD/DO residencies as well. More bang for the buck.

this is a bit misleading...the DO match (which is legally binding as well) is a month before the nrmp match...if you go into the DO match and get a match (which is usually expected since there are more than enough DO residency spots for the students) then you will have to withdraw from the MD match. If you really want the MD match, then you will probably not participate in the DO one.

please see any of the linked prior threads, which will also explain why DO is not always more "bang for the buck".
