hey guys,
I've just received 'unofficial' word via the phone that I've been accepted to the September 2004 class. I am and avid triathlete and was wondering if there were any runners out there? I understand there is basically one 9 mile road...is this road any good tfor running or is it too hilly? Also, I read that there is a triathon every year on the island...has anyone done it? Thanks for the info...how is the new gym? See you in September.

Running on Saba is a definite challenge. If you are a triathlete you will have no problem tackling the hills. It will be difficult but it should keep you in shape. I know that some elite runners trained by running up the path to Mt. Scenery frequently. That is a serious challenge if you run the whole way.
I am not sure about the triathlon. I do not remember seeing one. There is the annual Bay to Bay race where there is a race from Cove Bay on one end of the road to Fort Bay on the other end of the road.
Good luck

Hmmmm, I wanted to jog, but not due marathon runs. Especially with the humidity, I might just pass out half way up some hill. I'm looking forward to the gym though. Keep in mind that the gym is air-conditioned, so if you find the weather too humid to do long-distance runs, hit the gym.

Plenty! They run to the lectures and from the professors.

There's a hard core of runners here. The hills don't seem to matter much to some of these folks. There are also relatively flat spaces to run in the Bottom and Windwardside if you don't mind doing laps.
Earlier this semester (I think it was) A few of my classmates ran in the Half Marathon in Anguilla and one of them won the ladies division.
Many of these folks also participated in the Saba Triathlon and seemed to have a good time. I,on the other hand, had a good time sitting in my hammock and watching the clouds.
Best of Luck!
