Arriving on the Island soon for class. Classified ad mentions "apartment exchange" in the title. Any body doing clinicals in Florida or Georgia soon want to do a good running car exchange? Like apartment exchanges I thought this might be a good option. What are your thoughts? My wife has been checking shipping, rentals, purchases on St. Kitts and it seems the government of St. Kitts really sticks it to you on most of the options we have checked into referring to cars on the Island. I am not sure about leasing a car however. Anyway, it is just a thought. I am looking for input from others to see if any body now or in the future could benefit from this type of bartering. Governments traditionally hate bartering because it goes around their theft via tarriffs, taxes, fees, duties, etc....

I wouldnt say people barter here for a car at least. I just dont know actually. But, if you can import a car thats within 2 years old. You will not have to pay any government levies or taxes. Second, You can find a car for fairly cheap on the island, expect to pay around 2k for an older car with no A/C or 4k for an older car with A/C. Buying a car is really the smart way to go, because you WILL resell that car for the same price you bought it for.
Students Buying and selling cars like this are always in existence. I know lots of windsor students are just cheap, with no experience in renting a car. Thinking they can rent a car for an entire month for just 150 USD. There are places in which you can rent/lease a car, but the price gets up there, so you might as well buy a car. I would look into finding if the ross vet school has a forum, or that nursing school here has a forum. Ive tried to no avail. Most all Ross students buy their car from someone leaving ross
Otherwise, when you get here, if it was me, Id rent a car for a few days to drive around to find a car to buy.
I must also say, that, say you have a car there that you drive, like a 2004 honda or something like that, you bring it down, you drive it around and you are getting ready to leave windsor in 18 months. You could prolly sell it for nearly twice the amount you bought it for

I get the impression that you have a problem with rules. If the law (rule) is to pay, then you pay. If you have a problem with that go and live in Iraq! Don't come to St. Kitts. It urkes me when foreigners think they can leave their homelands and invade other peoples' sovereignty and do as they like.

I don't give a rat's U know what about your "impression" or u being "urked". Bartering is not illegal(at least in the US IRS laws). So, I "don"t have a problem with that". Sounds like some one hates"foreigners" or someone is worried about their "cut" of jacked up fees. Maybe a government rep or their family member. I will come to St. Kitts so don't hold your breath hoping otherwise. Thanks.:D

Could local car dealers, renters or leasors be monitoring web postings by students or potential students for profit reasons hoping to "corner the market"?

Holy cow, that response by lawabidingkid was ridiculous. There are ways where you dont have to pay. If you dont have to pay why waste your money. This is capitalism/democracy at best my friend.
I doubt it. Students may look to sell their cars on the web but its more like they sell the car to the kid a semester under them. You could try bullseyecarrental or try williams auto rental. I rented from bullseye while i was here, and when i was going to windsor ive rented from williams when my car conked out
