Hey guys,

I just got accepted to IAU and I'm really looking forward to starting in a few weeks, but I have some questions that maybe you guys can help me out with.

1. What is the situation regarding purchasing books?

2. In a related questions, my sister is in medical school and suggests that I purchase Gray's Anatomy. What do you suggest?

3. How many days prior to the start of classes should I arrive on the island?

4. Are there any supermarkets or clothing/department stores located a reasonable distance (less than 10 miles) from the school?

5. Do you suggest on-campus or off-campus housing, why or why not?

6. If off-campus, will I have time to arrange housing if I arrive only on Jan. 5th?

7. What is the school uniform?

8. Finally, are there any items that you feel that I should bring, other than the given necessities?

Thanks in advance for your help and I'll see you guys in a couple weeks!!

New Student with Questions
Hey guys,
I just got accepted to Windsor for Jan 08 and I had some questions that I didn't see answered (well, clearly at least) on other threads.

1. What is the deal with the housing? Do we get our housing when we arrive on the island or is it arranged before that?

2. I saw on another post that someone suggested that MD1 students buy books for themselves. Why is that?

3. In a related question, my sister is in medical school and she said that I should get Gray's Anatomy since its the book all of the US students use. Should I?

4. Where on St. Kitts is Windsor located and how do you guys feel about the location?

5. Is the new campus going to be ready for the upcoming semester?

Thanks in advance for you help and hope to see you guys in a few weeks!

Well I haven't completely decided what school I'm going to attend yet. I figured you would be more willing to help a potential classmate and I apologize for being misleading.

But regardless, I hope that you will be kind enough to provide me with some answers. I really only have two weeks to figure EVERYTHING out and the offices seem to be on vacation until after new years. I think you can appreciate the stress that is involved in figuring out your future in a matter of weeks.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ok i just finished my first semester at IAU so I will do my best to answer your questions

1. i order books through amazon, i think thats the cheapest
2. not sure
3. i arrived 1 week early, i think 3-4 days before school starts is ideal
4. there are supermarkets, and clothing stores close by
5. off campus, i heard the dorms suck
6. there should be time i think ,the administration will help you out with that
7.there is no uniform
8. bring everything you cant live without (dont expect to be able to find it on the island)

I just finished my first semester at IAU as well, and here is what i suggest....

1. What is the situation regarding purchasing books? Order your books before you come to the island, i use amazon.com and bring my books with me, however, you can order your books through the school website and have them shipped directly to the school. Keep in mind though that sites like amazon tend to save you money.

2. In a related questions, my sister is in medical school and suggests that I purchase Gray's Anatomy. What do you suggest? Not sure as well

3. How many days prior to the start of classes should I arrive on the island? I arrived close to a week before classes started, and that gave me time to find my apartment and become familiar with the island life and gave me time to settle in. It is a personal choice, some people can come 2-3 days before and still settle in just fine.

4. Are there any supermarkets or clothing/department stores located a reasonable distance (less than 10 miles) from the school? Yes, do not worry about that. There are two grocery stores near school, one is right near the campus. Clothing stores are there, however may not be exactly what you are used to back home. Not everything is available easily. So bring all clothing items you find important.

5. Do you suggest on-campus or off-campus housing, why or why not? I suggest renting an off-campus apartment. Administration does a good job on setting up students. I have not heard a lot of good things about the dorms available. I live alone in an apartment and i am very happy with that. Also there is no real "on-campus" housing, the dorms are not within walking distance of the school.

6. If off-campus, will I have time to arrange housing if I arrive only on Jan. 5th? Yes i think if you give the admin. a good enough idea of what you are really looking for then they can usually have something for you to look at the day you arrive.

7. What is the school uniform? No uniform, just as a medical student you should dress appropriately. :)

8. Finally, are there any items that you feel that I should bring, other than the given necessities? Anything that you know you have to have bring with you because you cant be sure that you will find it on the island. Bring mosquito repellant!! If you have any doubts about any specific items dont hesitate to ask, we are here to help you!! GOODLUCK with everything and i look forward to meeting you.

If you get Grays Anatomy, you will not need to get any other Gross Anatomy, Histology, or Embryology book. All of the divisions of anatomy are in Grays.

However

The professors may or may not lecture out of Grays. The information will be the same, just presented differently.

So

It depends on how you learn, and which book you like.
