Hi, I know, the topic on PDA's has been covered a lot in the past, but all the posts I was reading were started on like 2004 or 2005 and seeing as how its almost 2008, I wanted to know if anyone recommends any current models of certain PDA's. I'm leaning more towards Pocket PC's since I think the wave of the future is in with that, but I am not completely sold on them and Palm would be just as good. If anyone has any thoughts on specific models and how they like them or know of friends that have certain models, it would be greatly appreciated. I due to start rotations most likely in the next month or so
i have a palm treo and it's wonderful. i use it everyday to look up drugs, MOA, etc... and also to spam on vmd.

I love my Palm TX. It does the job and is reasonably priced. As far as programs, definately get Mobile Merck Medicus, Epocrates (don't waste your money on the full version, use the free one.....Merck has all the other stuff on it free anyway), Johns Hopkins Antibiotics guide, and Diagnosaurus is good to have as well, but not an essential. All of these programs are FREE and I got through my cores with no problems with these. Seriously, you won't need any other pocket books (besides Maxwells that is) if you download these onto your PDA.

Oh I love technology...
Palm TX is a great all around PDA and many people like them. Plenty of memory and a great screen and size.
The iPaq's from HP are good, but they use Pocket PC (Microsoft). They seem to have more programs, but the Palm's have plenty of medical programs too.
If you want a Phone + PDA then the like mentioned above the Palm Treo's is really good. The Treo 755p is a good phone+pda that runs all medical programs and offered my most phone carriers. (Sprint,Verizon, Etc). If the price is too high, theres the Treo 650 which is older but still runs the same programs and less memory.
Im not sure if Blackberry has enough medical programs for them, but a quick search on google could help.

Oh yes, without a doubt get Maxwell, quick easy reference to carry in your pocket. Though past your first few weeks you won't need it. But in the hectic first, you might find it a life saver

Granted I have only finished IM and Surgery, but I did not find my lack of PDA to be a hindrance thus far. For IM I used Pocket Medicine (very nice, the very newest edition is quite nice indeed); then Surgical Recall (which is not at all useful as a primary source), plus orange Tarascon Pharm for both rotations, and Maxwells only very occasionally (only for the eye chart). I found I could look up drugs in the book quicker than my colleagues on PDAs. I also found that on these two rotations a computer (and thus UpToDate and Statref.com) was always quite close at hand, further reducing my need for a PDA. YMMV, of course.

Everyone has different tastes. I like the PDA because it's nice and light, and Epocrates is a powerful tool for drugs.

Yes indeed. I also love the quick equations and calculations it has as well (BMI calculator, Fahrenheit to Celcius converter etc.)
