Hi you all,

What do people think about El momo, good place to stay for about four nights? Is that the cheapest? I am looking at their webpage it says $70 per night for the private baths. not bad, but still anyone know of anything cheaper? I am staying at Matthews and I decided to fly my mom with me so I can carry as much luggage as I can without worrying about shipping it, I am looking for a place to stay for her. I am sure Hillside gets away with overnight guests, not Matthews though.

El Momo is a very affordable and comfortable option.

It is nice. The owners are great, too.

The only thing that I would be concerned about is the location. It's in the Winwardside area, which is good but it's up on a huuuuge hill. I am not sure the age/fitness level of your mom but it might be something to take into account.

I think she can tackle the huge hill, she's done it before. hehe. How far is it from Matthew dorm. Walking distance?

El Momo sits a top of Booby Hill above Windwardside - it is definitely not walking distance from Matthews Dorm which is at the entrance to The Bottom. You can always walk down Booby Hill and hitchhike from Windwarside or rent a car.

Thanks you guys! I guess its safe to hitchhike, but is there always someone driving by willing to give you a ride? What hotels are walking distance to Matthews?

I wouldn't say any hotels are in walking distance to Matthews. The closest one is Queen's Garden. It really isn't hard to get around on the island though. You can always catch a ride to get around.

Keep in mind that the entire island is 5 sq miles. In terms of distance, not many things are far.. The problem is the terrain.. If you rember those stories from "old timers" about walking 5 miles to school up hill in both directions, Saba is very similar.. I know words can not explain this, it is something you need to see.. I tried to explain the layout of the land to my parents for 5 semesters. They were still shocked when they visited the island at the end of my 5th semester. The roads are narrow, and the hills are steep!! My father was unwilling to even try his hand at navigating my Asia Towner DLX across the island!!

I think I will go ahead and book with El Momo. If anyone else is staying there, mention that you are a saba student, they'll give you a discount.

also do the dorms have a front desk or something that has a phone so I can call my mom at the hotel if I need to?
